| A few more (terrible quality) photos! A trio of trumpeter swans on my nearby river. Taken with my phone as I drove by on my way home, hence the blurry quality. Apparently they breed nearby each year. Where I used to live the nearest breeding ground was in Yellowstone National Park 4 hours away. | I'm sure trumpeter swans did not serve as inspiration to Tchaikovsky 's Swan Lake. They do not sound like a ballet, do they? |

| Thank you everyone. Leaving for an early day at work, I saw not one, but TWO jackrabbits! Sadly I am too slow to get my phone out for photos. The first stopped off the shoulder of the road just out of headlights... But my poor phone camera in the dark could hardly see him. Maybe next time! They both safely escorted themselves away in the snow storm and darkness. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | I think we all are too slow for jackrabbits but at least you spotted them. I didn't know this use of the word shoulder, my English is narrowed to the toy animal figure subject and shoulder is something Christophe and Roger use to calculate the scale of the figures. Since USA roads have shoulders, I hope they're armless for jackrabbits. |

| The "shoulder" is just the sloping gravel sides where cars can pull off if needed. But I am glad they don't have arms either, as cars are dangerous enough for rabbits! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | I hope they build enough wildlife crossings, I believe animals get used to them. |

| There are several wildlife highways in this part of the country, but there could always be more of course. My Jersey cow and calf I enjoy seeing on my way to work. This is the most darling calf I have ever seen in person. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then, I had visitors the other evening. I came home and saw them feeding below the yard. I parked and quietly crept over to snap a few photos. I was slowly backing away when a neighbor started their loud truck and they decided it was time head off. It was a very neat peaceful meeting of my wild mule deer neighbors. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In the past the herd has been made of 7 does and fawns (including twins) but this night there were 8 total... I think they were joined by a friend of the opposite sex (bucks have dropped their antlers this time of year and "blend" in with does... you have to look at their body morphology to see any dimorphism). | You have an amazing diversity of wildlife in your new home, and what a beautiful place too! I keep looking at the background in your pics as well as the subjects. |

| Thank you everyone. :) I have more wildlife images to come soon, but in the meantime enjoy a few of my sunsets and my snow. This has all since melted from the last storm, but another La Nina event is headed my way today. | A big update as I have a few things to share here. :) First! Several weeks ago my Mom came across these tracks on her daily walk. To me, it looks to be more of a mustelid type track but I really can't say for certain. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The tracks were about 2.5-3 inches wide... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Next, before my much closer encounter with the small herd that lives right near my house, this is the larger collective herd about a mile away. They were feeding and resting before the night came on, near a small privatw reservoir alongside a huge flock of Canada geese. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]My small and adorable Jersey calf and his Momma. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then the close encounter occurred with the mulies over a week ago, but this last Sunday a few even ventured into the yard. I saw them from my upstairs window, then snuck down to the garage and watched them nibble the lawn for a while. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I think it was 2 does and one fawn. Perhaps one doe was a previous baby... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Surprisingly, they seemed quite comfortable in the yard. Unaware of my presence behind a window. The one in the image previous to this got so closw you could see her rain/snow soaked back. But then... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]From the large side window of the main house my Sister's 3 dogs noticed them and began to bark. The deer took their sweet time to leave. Only the fawn noticed me watching from some distance away. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And then they took their leave. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Lastly... the Easter rabbit came early! I have been trying to get photos of these hares for weeks! Not great as they kept their distance, but here is one! In the daytime no less! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]It was quite flighty, but I slowed my car, rolled down my window, snapped my photos, saw a second pair of ears further off, and drove on so as not to disturb them. | Really wonderful wildlife! Its really neat that you can observe the deer so closely. I wonder what tracks those could be, maybe you will spot the animal that made them eventually... _________________ Jolie

| My Mother thinks she saw it when it left the tracks, but any attempt I made to help her identify what she saw that would match up to what I would guess the track leaver was she rejected.... again, I am thinking mustelid based on the shape but perhaps I am being fanciful. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | So beautiful... those deer are BIG as well as fluffy! And snow, we've been often in the 90s for over a month now. |

| Great encounters both tracks and real animals You are really living in an incredible place and I won't be surprised if oone day you'll show us a giraffe I laugh but a similar story happened years ago to a friend of mine. She lives in the "Monts des Flandres" area, a less urbanized place about forty kilometers from my home. She had a party the evening before and in the morning, when she opened her shutters, she discovered a herd of elephants in the pasture next to her house. She says to herself, that's it, I must have drunk something weird last night, I'm hallucinating. In fact, a circus was passing by and a truck had broken down. while waiting for the repair, the elephants had been parked in the pasture. |

| That is a superb story Kiki. Thanks Kelly! The deer actually look pretty healthy here despite our crazy winter weather. Lots of deer back "home" in Pocatello Idaho have starved this year as feed is buried under feet of snow in places. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs.
