| Another new 2023 release from Safari, an updated arctic fox! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I think this model is a good upgrade from Safari's previous model. The proportions look better to me and I like the walking pose. Nothing too spectacular but I couldn't say no to another fox I like how fluffy this one looks. Now some comparisons! Papo, Schleich, Safari, Safari, Schleich, Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Schleich's older arctic fox (one of my favorite Schleich figures) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo's [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Safari's original one (mine is a bit dirty) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Recent Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Old Schleich kit (another one of my favorites) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then some face comparisons Safari, Schleich, Safari, Schleich, Papo, Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Schleich, Safari, Schleich, Papo [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Overall a very nice model! _________________ Jolie

| Surely the old version needed a upgrade as you mentioned. I like that they preserved the furry looking of the predecessor to contrast with the short-haired Schleich. Those comparisons are really useful. My opinion about the model is the exact same as yours and of course I can't also avoid a fox. |

| It is indeed more elaborate than the previous one. Can you take a picture with the WW? Thanks for showing |

| Great comparison, Jolie. the larger one is marketed at 1:9 scale so, using your picture, the smaller one is about 1:13. |

| Thank you for the comparison pics Jolie So it is just a bit too big for the Arctic hare Papo and Schleich size match better. Nevertheless it is beautiful |

| Jolie, although I'm not that obsessed with sizes, I delight in these comparison photos. They are always very helpful, and you have been tireless. I hope you never get tired of so many photo requests we make on the forum; I know it's a lot of work from preparation to sharing the pictures here. We can't ignore the fact that the Safari Arctic hare has its hind legs stretched out. If they were folded under the body as is traditional in rabbit replicas, the figure would look much smaller. I have the Papo version and many other figures to buy; otherwise, I would have no doubt in acquiring this Safari model. |

| I’m always happy to help out with photos! Comparisons often help us decide if we are going to get a figure or not so it’s always a great help. Knowing the size online doesn’t always make it clear.
As for the Safari hare it’s a really nice model. I was skeptical to get it for some time because of the size but I’m really glad I got it. It’s wonderfully sculpted and I’m happy to still see it in Safari’s current lines.

| To put it simply, a few years ago I let my Papo arctic fox go when the Kaiyodo joined my shelves. I've regretted letting him go ever since, he would have been perfect with my other 1/12 scale Arctic animals. Alas, he's nowhere to be found . So I'm looking for a replacement, the Safari Ltd is very nice but a bit too big for 1/12. All I have left is the latest Schleich as an option. |

One question: where do you guys find Kaiyodo and Eikoh retailers? On the internet I only find the six (western) major brands |

On the internet I only find the six (western) major brands If I just need a figure or two I can usually find it on eBay (although prices can sometimes be quite high). But the best way to get figures from Kaiyodo & Eikoh is through [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Through him I was able to get my Kaiyodo blue whale, and a handful of Eikoh figures for a much cheaper price than anywhere else. He has a source in Japan that buys and ships to him. _________________ Jolie

Thanks Jolie, Kaiyodo's blue whale is actually my Holy Grail. Beautiful creatures I had the pleasure to observe in Iceland and in the Azores in Portugal. I only possess the Schleich model released twenty years ago which is way to small compared to my humpback, gray and sperm whales. I need a good replacement. - Kikimalou wrote:

I recently ordered Safari's arctic fox and arctic hare (By the way, I just found out that arctic hare and mountain hare are two distinct species, geographically separated, one living in the Nearctic, the other in the Palearctic, until now I believed they were the same animal) I add two pictures I took of a mountain hare (Lepus timidus) this year in Norway while I was observing some moose. I apologize for the bad quality but it was getting dark and I heard a sudden cracking noise near a fence, then I saw it running away. I had to react quickly since these critters are really hard to follow and difficult to see in a snowy landscape. Arctic fox are slightly smaller than Arctic hare Are you sure? Judging by these pictures, it looks like artic foxes are larger... They are a common sight, as they often scavenge for food near hotels or private houses. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

Yes I'm sure I spend my time measuring modern animal toys to display them by scale. Arctic fox (a small fox species) The average head-and-body length of the male is 55 cm, with a range of 46 to 68 cm, while the female averages 52 cm with a range of 41 to 55 cm (16 to 22 in). The tail is about 30 cm long in both sexes. Arctic hare (one of the largest lagomorph) it measures from 43 to 70 cm head-and-body length, the tail length is 4.5 to 10 cm. |

Arctic hare (one of the largest lagomorph) it measures from 43 to 70 cm head-and-body length, the tail length is 4.5 to 10 cm. In light of these considerations, they look pretty much equally-sized, like in this picture [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Besides, the hare has retracted hind legs. Fully extended, In a running position, they would make it appear longer. Maybe it's only me, but a smaller arctic fox would be somewhat confusing. But I've never seen an arctic hare in the wild, only a mountain hare which are probably smaller. Here is a distribution map of both species [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And on this picture we can see how an arctic fox looks like next to a polar bear in real life [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It's not just you, of course. We all have preconceived ideas about the respective sizes of wild animals. After regularly reading that one toy was compatible with another without any arguments being put forward, I decided to measure my figures and present them with figures of the same scale. This work completely changed my way of seeing things, and allowed me to question my own preconceptions. Strange as it may seem, the reality is that Arctic foxes are no bigger than Arctic hare, so why try to show otherwise? Even with or without retracted hind legs, Head & body lenght measurement is one of the most reliable, after measurement at the withers of course. Here are a few pics with the Papo fox [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A family portrait at 1/12 scale [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
