you know what's really sad - i mean other than how beautiful this is - is that it looks like they were actually trying to do a specific breed, instead of the basis generic sheep. let us be silent as to what breed they were thinking of, as I fear if I say this looks like any known breed, that breed will come after me.

I love the Safari ram and ewe. It's so unusual for anyone to have done a "heads up" breed, that I adore these two. This board is inspiring me to try my hand at remaking a model, and I think I will start with this pair. All they need is to fix their ears and they'd be nice Kerry Hill Sheep, I think. Fix the ears and build up their noses and they could be Blueface or Border Leicesters. Actually, they could be worked into a lot of breeds....

OK, here are the first three pictures of our composition Sheep.

Tipple-Topple Sheep. A solid mountain-and-moorland breed.

Lineol's 1930's Sheep have a wonderful thick, carved fleece.

Lineol's 1940's to 1960 Sheep are smaller, and mostly painted in shades of dirty yellow-grey. (The one in the middle looks exhausted!)

The have short legs just like Icelandic sheep, - but the horns are larger.

I think I can recognize the "Bah-ing" sheep, perhaps I have one, but in a miserable condition. But she is cute anyway, of course

Fabulous collection Fernando! I like the look of the sheep in the second picture, on the right at the front - which brand is that?

Now that we have seen landrover's huge herd, we feel a lot better about swamping the forum with our Sheep! He has a lot more than we have!

Hausser/Elastolin Sheep. Just generic sheep, with stupid expressions.

Hausser/Elastolin 1950's Sheep. These look like a definite breed. Two have red-rimmed eyes and an evil look ... vampire sheep?

I am also curious about Safari, my older figures are marked 1998! But surely the brand is older...

Susanne and Roger, the sheep are from the Safari Farm Series, which hit the UK in 1991. It was a high quality series with family groups of specific breeds. It included some beautiful Jersey cattle, but we bought the Blackface Sheep ...

... and the Clydesadle Horse family. This is the mare and foal (recognise them, Rio?) .

The mare is belly-dated 1990. The stallion and foal are 1991.

On its website, Safari says it started as an educational toy company in 1980. A different source says 1982.
