| It is impressive the little importance I give to this animal and it is not fair. Maybe it is because sea animals are part of those I tend to avoid. Walruses are quite bizarre and I love them but I don't even know from memory which standard sized walrus I use in my collection. |

| Taking a break from whale-watching, I hope I will get the chance to work as a naturalist/tour guide for an agency organizing "walrus safaris" on Svalbard islands in the Arctic Ocean in summer 2025. As a matter of fact, I wished to be there this summer but unfortunately I sent my application after the deadline had passed. With their impressive tusks, living in remote places, walruses are fascinating animals; it its little wonder that all major brands have produced their own version of this huge pinniped. I was wondering which one could provide the best rendition. For comparison, here is a walrus in "flesh and bone", named Uquq, a female residing in SeaWorld San Diego [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Maia & Borges [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Mojö [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Collecta [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Collecta (pup or calf, I don't know exactly the right term, looks like both are used) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Safari Ltd [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo (older version?) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo (newer version?) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Which one do you prefer in term of accuracy, details, size, texture, wrinkles and folds in the skin etc...? My personal choice would be the new Papo, but I never held one in my hand.

| Your Safari ltd isn't the Safari ltd. For me the most beautiful is the last Schleich BUT the most realistic by far is the Safari Ltd. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

I edited my message because I posted the same Schleich model twice. I like the Safari very much. It's definititely my second choice after the Papo. Collecta is fine but looks more like a juvenile, the pup is cool. Papo's older model (???) looks made from the same mold as M&B. I don't like Mojö's (usually, I don't like their creations with a few exceptions) Which Schleich model are you refering to? Is it the one on the picture or did Schleich release a more recent version? If I had to acquire some walruses, my choice would be: -Papo for a big Pacific male -Collecta, for a female or a juvenile -Collecta for the calf |

| Beautiful walrus! I love whale watching but I haven't been in so long. Although last week I was at the beach and saw a pod of bottlenose dolphins and a humpback whale among them very close to the shore! My favorite walrus is the Safari one. After that probably the CollectA & the pup. I love baby animal figures _________________ Jolie

| I'm talking about this Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The first Schleich was the same than the Maia & Borges. Frankly, Safari Ltd is much more realistic than Papo. Every time I saw the latter in real life, I thought it was starving. This has always prevented me from buying it. |

| I like the pose of the Papo but it is not nearly as realistic as the promo image. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] _________________ Jolie

It depends, As Susanne wrote it, walrus males tend to become fatter before the mating season, like the Safari version. Otherwise, they have a leaner body like the Papo. Besides, all brands usually sculpt their models after photos of real animals. Another reason why I prefer the Papo over the Safari. I have the feeling it matches better with the CollectA's models (color, proportions) if you want to recreate a walrus colony. But once again, I never held a Papo toy model in my hand. So I would like to see the walkaround to get a better idea. |

| Well, walrus male have a leaner body only after the mating season, the rest of the year they spend time making fat When it comes to collecting, everything is a matter of personal taste. I hope you'll show us some photos of the little family when they get home. |

Indeed, the figurine looks less impressive than in the promo image. Now it's a draw between Safari and Papo. And what do you think about CollectA's models? Do you like them? Since they were sold together at some point, I guess they were meant to represent a female with her pup. Both genders have tusks, albeit smaller in the females. In a toy model world dominated by big adult males, I welcome this initiative. I still think Papo's would be the best matching choice if I had to acquire CollectA's figurines. I can't stop thinking that Safari's male would be out of place in their company. Perhaps I should see some pix to see how they work together. |

| The CollectA are very nice. Safari is my favorite but it is more orange than the others so it doesn't fit as well. If you want I can take photos of my Papo, Safari, CollectA, & newer Schleich for you. _________________ Jolie

That's precisely the color that puts me off. I wish it was more brown like a real walrus, although a lot of them have a cinnamon skin. The rest is just perfect. Yes, I would love to see more pictures to help me make a choice. |

About Papo, it's not only a question of body, I think the tusks on the real model are weird. About CollectA I haven't bought them because I think the adult is too flat, maybe it's not so bad but it really bothers me. | I won't rush things. I think I will grant myself more time before acquiring a walrus. If in the future I need an individual figure, then I would pick the bloated Safari model which looks very realistic, if it's still available. If, however, I decide to create a small walrus colony, I'd rather select the Papo and the Collectas that go well together. The problem being that I'm not even sure Collecta's adult walrus was intented to be a female. It's not marked as a female. It could be a juvenile or a subadult, but then, its tusks would be too long. But for now, I have all the figurines I need to be happy. |
