The long-expected new arrival is here at last! He was expected on Christmas Eve but well, the weather has been pretty awful for driving! He's had a long journey in that trailer...

Thanks for the comments everyone :) I've done lots of Schleich picture stories before but this is the first one here. It's a lot shorter and simpler than the ones I usually make but well the function of this one was simply to show Satchmo. And of course he needed a proper reception, lots of people there to admire him :) They took him inside really quickly after the last picture cos it's about -15 degrees celcius here right now
I also got a Pegasus foal in the same package but it didn't really fit into that story. My first addition for 2011 will probably be a MOTHER FOR THE PEGASUS FOAL :) He definitely needs one <3

My friends, I'm so happy happy happy! I got four beautiful new old horses and I even named them already, here they are...

This is Blesi the Icelandic horse, whose name means "horse with a blaze" (that white marking on his head). Icelandic horses are often named after a characteristic they have, either in their looks or in their personality, so I'm following the tradition :) I think Blesi is going to be a nice, gentle horse who follows his brother and best friend Gullfaxi EVERYWHERE. This model was only produced for two years so I'm proud to have him in my collection.


So this is Gullfaxi ("golden mane") I love his unusual colour. He's got that twinkle in his eyes that suggests that life around him is never boring, he could be quite a mischievous little chap.


This beautiful French mare is Voulez-Vous. She is very charming, everyone who's seen her just adores her.


Last but not least is Little John, the hard worker who never complains and never lets you down. Schleich calls him a "heavy horse" but I don't think that's a real breed so for me, he's a Suffolk Punch.


These were all in very good condition, even better than I expected. Plus, both the Icelandic horses are Made in Germany, which is cool because most of my collection is Made in China. On the Camargue mare it doesn't say where she was made, it just says Schleich, the year '96 and Germany. The heavy horse is made in China if I remember right.

How wonderful, I think, too, that Little John is a Suffolk Punch. He is one of my absolute favourites of all the Schleich horses, and I have often wondered what breed he is, - now I know

Perhaps Gullfaxi is more a "Silfurfaxi", as he is siverdappel, - Gullfaxi is usually used for a chestnut horse
But who cares, I once knew a Icelandic horse called "Toyota" , - and he was certainly not a car

Matilda these are beautiful additions, big congratulations!! And I love their names too, very nice Your Camargue mare, she probably was made in Germany. I have a couple of old Schleich, which just say the date and Germany on the bottom. I love having models made in Portugal or Germany

Thanks for the comments, how nice that you like my additions as much as I do :) Little John is also Made in Germany, not in China! I just wanted him to have a proper breed so I went for Suffolk Punch because they are the same colour, but I don't know if Suffolk Punches are allowed to have white markings on their feet Any of my many horse breed encyclopedias wouldn't answer that.

Otherwise we will just say his fetlocks are very light

Suffolks are allowed to have a bit white on their legs, but they have not feathers and aren´t as massive as this model is http://www.suffolkhorsesociety.org.uk/the-suffolk-horse/

Congratulations on these wonderful horses. They are great finds indeed and look to be in wonderful shape. Love the names.

... and which I managed to get anyway! The trotting chestnut of -93, isn't she lovely??


This model really gets me thinking, why don't they do horses like this anymore? I know, the faces of the older models aren't as nice as the newer ones, but at least this one has some energy and movement in her! I think this is one of the things that really sets horses apart from other animals: despite their size, they can move so beautifully and gracefully. Why not use this characteristic to their advantage?

Okay, enough ranting. I'm trying to decide what to call her. I might be settling for Enigma, but I'm not sure yet.

That is a fabulous horse, I agree 100 % with you, - why don`t they make horses like that any more ?

Perhaps the special charm is that at the same time it has the strong impression of ove special artist`s touch, Schleich employed at that time - it is not "only" a horse

And your new horse is in perfect condition, too
