| Congrats! The Britains tapir is made in the 1970's. The so called fox is a Marx copy, and it is a wolf actually, maybe it is even a Marx, they are not marked as such. The lionesses, gorilla, lightbrown horse, eating pig and polarbear cub are mostly smaller Britains copies, made in Hong Kong. of the vintage models. Vintage is the name for the older Britains models, the newer ones are called deetail models. |

| Ohhh, those horses are marvellous How old are they ? Funny with older gaited horses in a British brand, - or in any European brand. It is perhaps only 30 - 40 years ago when the Dabish vets thought an Icey was lame if they saw it in pace or Tölt But if we go app perhaps 300 years back gaited horses were very common in Europe. They called them ambulators, and the smooth gaits were considered espially suited for women - and men of the church |

It's specific way of moving
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Yes It is a four beat gait Robert shows you fine tölt in his links, - but here you can see the world champion [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Have patience see it all Look how completely still the rider sits in the saddle in spite of the horse moving as fast as fast galop ! The best iceys can go five gaits : walk, trot, tölt, galop and flying pace. The so called canter is considered ugly in Iceland, and for hundreds of years it has not been bred for. Why have canter if you can tölt ? |

| No thanks BTW, there are loads of copies on the market indeed, mostly made by Hong Kong and Singapore companies in the 1970's, often in a smaller scale, so there are many sizes possible. I think those Britains hunter horses are just walking slowly Susanne, and were not ment to make any special way of moving like tólt... The bearcub was made in brown by Britains to, it is quit rare. Here it is: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here with the polarbearcub. There are lots of copies, i do have some to. |

You are probably right, Willy, as Tölt, - or amble as similar gaits are called outside Iceland - was not recognised in England in the last century, where this model was made. It could be a horse just starting off at a slow canter Funny thing is that often the Irish cub (tinker, the gypy-horse) can actually go amble. Some pure-bred Arab horses can also go amble. It is typically a gait that was bred out of the horses used by the gentry and other wealthy persons in Europe. It did not look "dignified" enough, especially in front of a carriage - and it is a fact that in lines where amble is strong, there will be the odd "piggy-pacer", a slow, stiff gait that totally lacks elegance, and which is extremely unpleasant to ride So the last centuries amble has typically only been present in breeds owned by people who were more dependant on other properties than high speed and nice looking gaits like trot and canter ( Slow gallop). |

| Born This Way, I remember having a sow nursing piglets figure a long time ago. Not sure if it was from that line or if another line made a similar figure? |

| The original bearcubs are marked with Britains, made in England, otherwise they will be marked with made in Hong Kong or so... The sow nursing is a pig often to be found in the 1970's farmsets. But Hausser Elastolin made a figurine like this to. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Your bearcubs are all copies, Hong Kong or China, same for the sows. The tiger must have made in China, maybe there is a brand under it? Here are my copies: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
