Do you want me to say a few good words to Santa, maybe these 2 aren't the last after all? _________________ Robert

| Congratulations Mihnea, they are both awesome additions, especially the Ankylosaurus. You called it a Euplocephalus, is that what it really is or is Ankylosaurus another name for it? _________________ Harriet My *Collection* My *Handmade Animal Sculpture*

| Thanks Harriet! It is in fact neither of those 2, but for sure, more of an Euplocephalus. Papo labeled it as an Ankylosaurus to have better sell rates. |

Ankilosaurids is a family of several species of dinosaurs, those with an armored looking. To turn it easier these animals are called ankilosaurus, although there's a species with this name that works as a type species. So, an †Euoplocephalus is a different species of ankilosaurid. I'm sure Mihnea, our expert of dinos, will explain it better! |

| They are absolutely wonderful, Mihnea And your pictures are marvellous ! Did you get a new camera ? Uhh, I hope that next year I will be able to get some more Papo-dinoes, they are SO awesome Thanks for explaining, Roger Hmmmm, I think I will NEVER be able to remember the names of various dinos. I have to make some memo-rules, - what about this : An anker is hard and has knobbly, these dinoes are Anker-saurs, and heavy, so they are ankilosaurs |

| Congratulation Minhea, those are two excellent models Euoplocepahlus Tutus and Ankylosaurus magniventris are indeed cousins of the same family. But they are different animals ( more different than a lion and a tiger for example ) They didn't lived at the same time, Euoplocephalus realm began 10Mya and ended before the ankylosaurus realm. Both were 6 meters long ( some scientific think ankylosaurus reached even 9 meters ). How distinguish them easily ? Ankylosaurus had a "plate armour" like the SAFARI ltd Carnegie model Euoplocephalus had a "spiky armour" like the PAPO or the KINTO FAVOURITE model |

I also spent 15 minutes trying to take these 2 photos. Susanne, you should always start by learning the basic species for each genus: in our case-ankylosaurus. Then, try to learn more about the other species. I found it easier to learn some of them by watching movies of documentaries. Check WWD on youtube, or educational dino-shows on TV. To make it clear: ankylosaurus was huge, as big as a car and very robust euplocephalus was his smaller cousin, much lighter in shape and with a totally different spike arrangement |

I have to make some memo-rules, - what about this : An anker is hard and has knobbly, these dinoes are Anker-saurs, and heavy, so they are ankilosaurs Susanne, nobody knows all the names of the dinosaurs, not even a Palaenthologist, there are more than 1000 species. I think the better way to start learning a little about them is starting to know which are dinosaurs and not: For example, the marine reptiles like mosasaurs and plesiosaurs are not dinosaurs as well as the pterosaurs (flying reptiles). Then we can start learning these groups: theropods - (mostly bipedalcarnivores and birds) (T-rex and friends) ; ankylosaurians: (armored herbivorous quadrupeds) (ankylosaurus and friends); stegosaurians: (plated herbivorous quadrupeds) (stegosaurus and friends); ceratopsians: (herbivorous quadrupeds with horns and frills) (triceratops and friends); ornithopods: (bipedal or quadrupedal herbivores including "duck-bills") (iguanodon and friends); sauropodomorphs: (mostly large herbivorous quadrupeds with long necks and tails (brachiosaurus, siamese cats and friends) I've found these little descriptions in Wikipedia and I think they are easy to get even some taxa are still under discussion but we always have Kikipedia and Mihneapedia to help us. :) Pick an exemplar of any of the groups from your collection and you'll see clearly the differences, nothing better than learn with our collections! |
