Science & Nature Informations and News for 2013!

Science & Nature started manufacturing their replicas 15 years ago, commencing with the larger versions of Kangaroo, Platypus, Wombat, Echidna, Koala, Tasmanian Devil and Possum. They make the large replicas with an information hang tag.

Their original idea was to make the replicas to scale, however, the Kangaroo was too big and the platypus too small, so they decided to make them in relative proportion - that is the Kangaroo is the largest and the Leadbeter's possum is the smallest, with the others scaled according to their size proportionate to the Kangaroo.
The designs of these large replicas were overseen by the curators of Healesville Sanctuary, an Australian wildlife sanctuary operated by Melbourne Zoo. This process of authentication ensured that the replicas were as accurate as possible. For other replicas they have also worked with the Melbourne Museum.

Having produced a range of large replicas they then decided to release smaller, lower priced versions. This size they decided upon for their birds and sealife ranges.


Of course other manufacturers make Australian animal replicas, but they make an increasingly diverse range that extends beyond the well known species to the less known such as Numbat, Quoll and Quokka. They endeavour to make five replicas a year and

this year they are planning to add three New Zealand birds - Kea, Yellow crowned parakeet and Morepork.

If some members want to ilustrate this topic with some pictures of the figures of this brand it would be appreciated!

I only have a single Tasmanian devil but I'll collect them for sure! :)

Scince & Nature is one of the pages I have done on the Toy Animal Collecting Wiki. I only have a few of the individual toy pages done but have photos taken for many I will be putting up soon. I still need to take a group photo or two. Roger I've stolen your excellent text and added it to the page. It is easy to become an editor at the wiki if anyone wants to add things themselves. This is just the sort of information I have been hoping to get. I particularly need people who have lists of animals made by European companies.

You have the pukeko by SSS? They was sell in new zealand. It is a one of my most wanted animals!

Unfortuately I havn't got ay toys from sss. Apart from my yowie collection as a kid, I only started collecting in 2007. And I mainly have horses. But my collection is both growing ad branching out! :)

Ahh, this brand is really growing on me.. I want the lorikeet, the possums and the tasmanian devil!
