Yes, i am with you Doc! Specially in those older and retired Schleich models they can be interesting. The models that have combinations in colours, like the old red deer and specially the old wolf seem to have endless combinations. But a few are ok to me, but not all there is. In case of variations, you should talk to Susanne, she is the queen of variations around here, specialised in Bullyland! (o)):

Doc, Bojan just posted the comparison picture between China and Portugal tapirs. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Thanks Roger for the link . I really enjoyed viewing the tapirs. I feel some of the Chinese versions are a step ahead than their German , Portugal versions in painting and color details . Isn't it ? My latest darlings Vietnamese pig variants . I bought the right one [ China ] way back in 2006 . His German brother [ lt. with white tusk ] joined only last year with him . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]the black n white cow laying [ oldy ] rt. glossy [ made in China ] , lt. [ Portugal ] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

Thanks for showing Doc. Actually, some of Chinese versions are better than their German or Portuguese relatives. However refering to tapirs I find the Portuguese version better. The detail of the white color outlining the eyes to highlight them can result atractive but it doesn't exist in real tapirs. I like some charm and character but I appreciate a lot when a figure can work as an educational tool showing the real characteristics of a species. For example, I like best the Chinese jaguar than the German but best the German falcon than the Chinese. So it is hard to create a rule.

Thanks Andreas , Willy and Roger @Roger - I agree with your point 100 % I like your observation (o)): I was about to tell the same thing that some Chinese versions are few steps ahead than their German and Portugal versions . [ esp. in terms of vibrant , bright painting job done on the China models ] and vice versa As a matter of fact , I would say the bright catchy colours give more presence to the China versions . One best example I have is the retired Fleckvieh calves . Look at this pic. What I observed was the sculpt details were bit more clear in German version [ left one ] On the other hand , painting is damn good in the Chinese version [ right one ] undoubtedly . Neverthless , both cuties are my 2 eyes . I love them equally . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And 2 VIPs reached my house , after my very very long hunt for them . They are none other than my bubbly Boxer bros . Yes, I was starving for them for months together . And NOW , they are here with me after a prolonged hunting . The brown and white guy arrived from South Africa just a yr. back . I bought him for mere 4 $ [ believe me pls. ] The full brown guy reached me recently . Aren't these brothers astonishingly cute ? I am extremely delighted to have this pair in my canine section . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Opportunity knocked my door to acquire these wonderful treasures once again . In fact , I created an opportunity to acquire these immortal oldies Goldies I always have a very special soft corner for the Schleich cattle . So , why to miss the fantastic chance of grabbing these charming bovines Young Fleckvieh bull , made in Germany [ rt. side ] variant added to his counterpart [ lt. China ]. [ Guys , there is an interesting history in acquiring these 2 bullies . Way back in 2003 [ my first Schleich purchase] , I bought the Chinese version and now , in 2013 , I grabbed this German version bull from the same shop . In between , when ever I visited the shop for consecutive years , he was starring at me desperately to take him to my house. As my choice of animals were different every time , I just neglected him .One more surprising thing is that he was the only piece in the stock for years together . I am very lucky I got him ] And now , he is very proud to be with me in my menagerie Look at my China bull , he is so excited to have a company of his own [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Angus calves [ rt. China and Lt. Germany ] German calf came in 2005 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Along with him , his mother also joined as she didn't want to be separated from her son [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Fleckvieh bull , the third variant arrived my ranch [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Swiss bull , my 3rd variant again In terms of sculpt , he has a very sleek body unlike my other 2 hefty versions [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Holstein bulls - rt. Germany make , glossy version and lt. China version , mat finish the German version was bought in 2003 , in my first Schleich purchase lot . Obviously , he is very special to me [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]the mighty European Bison , my 3rd variant [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]last not the least of this lot , the gorgeous Sperm whale older variant [ light greyish blue colored with creamy white under marking , made in Portugal ]. He was also lying in the shop for ages Destiny is powerful [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]my brilliant newer version [ he arrived in the yr. 2009 ] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wonderful variations, all of them (o)): And some extremely rare ones But I must say that the young Fleckvieh bulls take the gold medal for both rarity, looks and astoinishing history It was so good that you took the German one with you home at last , they both look very happy

I am sure these figures were making ugly faces to all kids that wanted to buy them just because they were waiting for you lying patiently on shops. Those are great stories and nice variations.
