| Among the old composition model Ducks in our collection, some of the Drakes ... and only the Drakes ... have strange little top-knots on the back of their heads. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are specimens by (left to right) Unknown, Tipple-Topple, and Lineol. What breed do they represent, and does the breed still exist? We would like to see pictures of live specimens! Sue & Lesley castlerigg |

| They are beautyful, SueandLesley Christophe comes to the rescue, of course, incredible what you know, dear friend !!!! This is SO funny, I have a book from my childhood, The Ugly Duckling, By H.C. Andersen. The mother-duck has such a pon-pon on her head I must have had that book since I was 3 or 4 years old, so I always imagine that duck with a "hat" on [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Looking at it now , I think the illustrator found a very special duck for a model, because I have never seen one in Denmark, - and, and, and..isn`t she a DRAKE ? |

| Thank you, Christophe, for the information and for those lovely photos.
Susanne, we think that your ducks must have been a VERY modern family!

| That's interesting! Searching a little the only thing I find similar to what Christophe is showing, is something called in Portuguese (marreco de pompom), a kind of garganey. About the crested duck it looks to be the translation for Canard huppé (Lophonetta specularioides)! Thanks for showing, I never heard of it before. |
