| As I promised on the Modern Bactrian camels confrontation topic, here is a review of the last Bactrian camel made by LINEOL. The German company made two different camels from 1920 to 1940, those venerable models are alas far from my shelves and too expensive for me now In 1940, LINEOL began a new animal serie and made a new Bactrian camel, the third one which I will have the pleasure to show you. It was made in composition material as usual and molded on wires. This model will be sold until 1960 when the LINEOL company collapsed. The VEB PLAHO Marolin used some models to build their own line, unfortunately not this Camel and calf... About my Camel, it is not in Mint condition, the legs have been "repaired" a bit... Nevertheless, until I find a better one this one is really good enough to enjoy my shelves and heart . The figurine scale is between 1:22 and 1:28. So I choosed Mr. Tintin (1:25) to compare with. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The two calves : LINEOL 1940-60 and SCHLEICH 2009 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]With his 1960's and 70's successors The official pretendant : THE VEB PLAHO model wich is from a different mold [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The Rival descendant : Te HAUSSER ELASTOLIN 54mm model which is more in the LINEOL spirit IMHO. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]With the Modern Camels : SCHLEICH, SAFARI Ltd. and PAPO. I don't know why but it seems the PAPO could be the real successor [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You know the year- is it from Dresden? Well, it never told me As I said, this model was made from 1940 to 1960 So it could be 72 years old or at least 52 !

| Christophe, it is so nice that you decided to make a walk arround about these 2 Lineol camels. It is a very competent figure, everything looks nicely sculpted and realistic. Good proportions, fantastic limbs, texture, etc. No needing of cuteness factor, weird and toyish proportions. That's natural design, the design of Nature! Sometimes when we are a little snappy with modern brands it is because we love the animals as they are and not as the companies think they should look to sell better. ...I don't want to think that sculptors from modern brands are not able of making better. To see the Lineol with the Schleich , for example, is painful. Mainly the head and legs arepoorly done. It is curious also to see the ears of the cute Schleich baby, never noticed it before. :roll:Well, once Schleich is really easy to find my wish was that the brand was more competent with their sculpting and I would have a nice camel with 6 Euros, but who can change the mind of a brand that has such an impressive success and that is defeated for new generations saying that everything is the best even when it is clear that is not? That's also the reason why I'm happy seeing more interesting sculpts like we are seeing these last years with Papo, Safari, CollectA and Mojo mainly and my hope of having a fantastic camel is not anymore delivered in a old figure, hard to find and not affordable for me. I see that Papo camel is not as nice as Lineol, see the way Papo placed the legs to turn it in a shelf figure and how they are under the body in Lineol figure but I'm really satisfied with it, I have a very decent camel, much more realistic than Schleich or other modern and with an affordable price. |

| It's seen that LINEOL BActrian camel is more accurate compared to modern maker...

| Great model as usual in Lineol, and yes, from the modern ones you showed, the papo seems to be the best indeed... _________________ http://www.collectorsquest.com/collector/1313/willybacoman
