| I guess it's time to talk about the new Schleich Rattlesnake ( Crotalus ????). Crotalus is the genus of "American only" venomous pit vipers. These snakes are well known for the rattle on the end of the tail which makes this group so distinctive. 32 species are recognized. The Schleich 14740 Rattlesnake is a nicely made model with excellent details for it's size. The company called it a Rattlesnake (Crotalus) and let the customer choose the species... A really hard task Head, body and rattle patterns can't really help for that. IMHO, if you don't want to repaint your's, you have in your hand a new specie, the Schleich 14740 Rattlesnake (Crotalus schleichi) . Maybe a specialist could help here ? and now, let the pics talking. If they are too big for someone, let me know

| Thank you for a walkaround, Kiki! Yesterday I visited the shops with major brands and I bought 5 new Schleich animals. I saw all new snakes too and I should say that they're very beautiful. I also liked new crocodile. I thought that it's little cartoonish, but it's great model indeed! Not cartoonish at all! _________________ My shadow's the only one that walks beside me, My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating. | I love this snake, and cannot wait to get one for my collection. I've been hoping for a rattlesnake for a few years now, and though the fangs are quite big (though we have to remember they have to comply to safety standards, and you can't very well leave the fangs off of a cobra or a wound up rattlesnake...) and the painting could have been better, I still think this is one of the better models from Schleich this year. | Great Walkaround Christophe!
This is a fantastic model in my opinion. It a contender for my favorite Schleich model of 2015. After getting it and seeing it in person, I also ordered one for my son's collection. It's such an appealing sculpt.
(Susanne puts it: Schleich is still alive. This model reminds me of the old days where one just fell in love with some of their models. I feel similarly about the Alligator. I'm really smitten by that and this Rattlesnake.) |

| p.s. it's such a surprisingly small model as well, which in my view is just more impressive! |

| I am considering to get it, although I don't like when species are not identified. I hope someone can assign it to a species. Pictures are excellent as usual what turn these fangs probably more terrible than they are in real. I love the detail and the clever pose. |

| Thank you for your comments 2015 is indeed a very good year for Schleich, a fresh start and this Rattlesnake is among the front runners. Nevertheless, I agree with Rogério, even with an accurate painting, the sales won't crumble. |

| now this made me wonder, too, what subspecies it could be, - and searching wikipedia, I found that there are SO MANY LOOK I had no idea that there were such an abundance of different ones Could it be a Prarie Rattlesnake ? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| It could nearly be a Prairie Rattlesnake, the main problem is the tail. Prairie rattlesnakes have banded tail as a lot of Crotalus. |

| Yeah, I wasn't able to work out what species the rattlesnake was.
That's not saying much, though. Other than having run into several rattlesnakes while back packing in my youth, I don't know that much about them except what I can glean from the internet like everybody else.
I suspect it's a "generic" sculpt and that the paintwork pattern -- in particular the lack of bands near the tail -- is mainly the result of laziness on the part of the company.
(I still love it though. And I'd recommend it to anyone.)

And yes, I think this is one of the best models from them year, and many of their figures look much nicer in person than in the catalogue, and have had good improvement from the past few "cutesy" years. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. ... ... I don't understand... Please help poor macaque Checking a faint pulse (putting a finger on an artery to check if the heart is still working) is what a doctor does when examining a very heavily injured victim to see if that person is still alive. "Yes, I can feel a faint pulse! IT'S STILL ALIVE!" So when the pulse becomes stronger, so is the victim. "Yes, the pulse is getting stronger. IT WILL SURVIVE!"

| This rattlesnake was identified in another forum as a Western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox). As nobody objected, I used that identification on TAI. Any objection here? |

I still think this one looks also like a prairie rattlesnake and the tail is wrong in both. |
