From my photos, maybe you see the white color, like natural white color..taken just from the tubule.... but is not. I mixed with some colors. The same I`ll do with the black color. Something which I lurned in the art school : ``In paintings, when you make something realistic, never use the black and white colors just from the tubule ! `` ... `` becouse in nature, we never have exactly pure white..or pure black color..! `` If you use these two colors not mixed, then the models will look not realistic..and more like a toy
I think this is a very important point indeed. I never painted, though, I often criticize the painting of some mass produced figures when they use very contrasting colors. Pure white, pure black or pure whatever often doesn't increase the realism of a figure. I pointed it with some Mojo figures. I know they cannot paint with a tenth part of the quality as you do, but I believe it is not hard for them to mix colors to reduce the contrast and increase the realism. About this topic, just take all the time you need, no hurries. Exactly !!! Gooood crocodile Thankyou for all the great tips , Kosta _________________ SUSANNE |

| Oh, he looks more like tiger now. Thank you very much, Kosta! Your tutorial will be very useful to my handmade snarling wolf Shelby and her future sisters/brothers (I just try to do Schleich-like scale, so your way is the best for me, I think) _________________ My shadow's the only one that walks beside me, My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating. | Great job Kosta! Question, do you mix the white and the black with some light/dark brown or something? I mean, if you mix it with green or blue it will become very light blue or green, but in your care it still looks like a white... Eeeh, my explanation isn't that good with my English, I hope you understand. _________________ ~Karin~

| Thank you Karin. :) Yes, I understood your question .. So, it depends on the case.... In my situation with the tiger...If you check step number 9, I have there light color, which is mixed with: white, a bit yellow ochre,a bit mars orange, a bit brown and a bit black. So, for the lightest color, from the last 2 photos, I`m mixing mainly white paint with a bit of the previous mix of colors. And, when we watch the result, for us this is also white...but if we compared with pure white color, then we can see the difference. The same I`ll do with the black for the strips for example... The black paint I`ll mix again with same colors, which I pointed before....of course mainly black. The reason of this mixing is also, that the white or black mixed colors are more in harmony with the other colors. But this is only with case like our tiger now. Sometimes we have to mix black or white with other colors..like you gave example with green or blue... depends on a case.. Let`s say we have a green animal, which has also black and white spots... in this case I`ll mix the black and white colors with green..and other colors...Why ? Depends on this : do I need these black and white colors to be warm colors..or cool colors. In the case with the tiger, my white and black colors are mixed with warm colors...so they are also warm. So, what we have to know for the pure colors: Except black and white, one part of the others are warm colors... and the other part are cool colors. Black and white are NEUTRAL colors. When we mix black and white..we have gray color, which is also neutral. But when we mix this gray with warm color..then we have warm grey...and when we mix the gray with cool color - cool gray. Uhhh I`m sorry for this loooong explanation...I hope you understand it .... but there are a lot of things... actually this is a separate science, which is called : `` color science `` :) |

| Thank you again Kosta I agree for the black and white thing too. For black, I think it is especially true for the small spots. This is what I like on the Papo cheetah, the spots are fark brown and it looks more natural than black spots. And I love your loooooooooong explanations Is there a step we missed here? |

| I`m happy to read all that :)) Thank you Susanne, Kiki and Karin :) Kiki, you catch every detail..even when I miss to say something for it Before I made the last step, I just put some extra color from the step number 9 , which is the darker base color for the white parts. I made this, becouse i didn`t want to have so strong borderline between the dark and light parts :) But, now I`m starting to paint over with more realistic and lights colors, for the tiger`s skin... so soon I`ll show my next step.. :) _________________ KOSTA |

| Yay more updates. Like the others say, you do a very good job at teaching how to do the repaint. Showing pictures is one thing, but explaining in words is something else. You do both very well I've already started with steps 1-8. Unfortunately I can only work on it during the weekend. Can't wait to continue _________________ Anne-Joke ajs.artistry - Instagram AJs Artistry Shop - Etsy |

| Ok, now next step.. 11. I`m starting with more light and realistic colors. The tiger has diferent shades of colors on his coat. On the shoulders, he is more dark... on the back, thorax and back legs, he is more light... And also on some places - more Yellow ochre, on others - more Mars orange..or Mars red. So , I`m using diferent shades for the diferent parts..mixing all colors, which I showed in the beginning. I`m using the technique with the ``dry brush``(steps 7 and 10 ) to keep the texture....but also in some places, I`m removing the texture....becouse :``Too much texture `` I do that with this technique : I`m using the lighter color (depends on the place), but with more water ..and when I put this color, he makes the contrast of the texture more soft..but still keep it, becouse with more water, the paint become more transparent So, let`s see the result : Now the tiger, becoming more realistic tiger :) For now I did only this side of the body...now I have to do the same, with the other side.. _________________ KOSTA

| Thank you, Kosta! I absolutely agree to your opinion, I just didn't know how to do that You know, I was working with plasticine about 5 years, and so I learned get almost any color, but I never tried to paint by paints... So your tutorial is an ideal for me _________________ My shadow's the only one that walks beside me, My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating.
