| Hello, I found one horse from online shop, in Bulgaria. It look`s like Breyer to me...maybe classic size..? And maybe it is old....at least it look`s like :) Can you help me with more information, if you know it? Some photos from the seller : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Thank you for the help :) |

| Actually that looks like a Japanese or Chinese knockoff of the Maureen Love Quarter Horse Stallion. Breyer model: (Photo courtesy of Identify Your Breyer) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Yes, knockoff means a copy The Love QH family was released in 1974. |

| LeeAnn is the perfect person to reply to you about Breyer but you can find here the page of that horse at Identify Your Breyer. The best source to Breyer figures. Is not easy for unexperienced like us to find a figure so we're lucky having LeeAnn around! I hope someday, we find someone to work Breyer section on Toy Animal Wiki to give an alternative tool to Breyer collectors but it is a huge task! LeeAnn replied meanwhile... |

I mean....I still didn`t buy this horse.... and I have to try to put the price of the seller ..more low If I know , it is a copy....will be easer for me :) |

| I don't know how to recognise if it's copy or original but the sculpture is very good, M. Love was great artist and her works have some special unique charm. The model is in not very good condition but you can repaint it beautifully If you talk to seller about the price let him/her know that the condition of this model doesn't make it a collector item (because the scratches etc) so the price should be lowered maybe? _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| It's possible that's a mark from the company that made the copy. It looks too small to be the old Breyer USA mark, and it's not in the right place. Unfortunately I don't have any models on the mold so I can't look, but looking at authentic models on that mold it doesn't look like the stamp is located there (Photo from eBay auction) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I'm not afraid to admit that this horse is confusing for me, but I think it is just a very good copy. As you can see in the IDYB link, this model was never produced in this color. The black around the eye is very different from the shading Breyer did during the time this model was produced. The color in general is strange and not something I've ever seen on a Breyer model. The tail looks like they typical Japanese copy, deep vertical lines cut into a shape. And I think the biggest giveaway is the paint loss, especially on the barrel it looks like the paint peeled off, which Breyer paint won't do. The paint on older Breyers is much sturdier than what they use now, so I find it odd that this particular model has so much damage. Finally the face seems to have lost detail from the Breyer, the mold definition has worn away. That's why I'm 99% sure it's a copy. You can always ask the seller for a closer photo of the stamp though! Just because it's a copy doesn't mean it's no good though. If the price is right and you like the model, I say go for it! Copies can be fun. |

| Soooo good help from Anna and LeeAnn.. Thank you so much for this very clear points LeeAnn :)) I even didn`t know, that they make copies in Japan :) I`m shure, the seller has no idea about Breyer...or other brands.... for him, this is just an old toy model, that`s why..has to be more expensive I`ll try to negotiate with him :) I like it..it is a good copy :) Thank you again verey very much, for this so friendly and helpful comments :)))) |

| Hi, copies can really be fun - I got loads of them Here are two of them. The one in the middle is the 'real' one. The matte copy is marked, the glossy one not [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Hi Sortepletter, thank`s for your comment ... unfortunatelly, I can`t see your photos ... I`ll not get this model.... the seller doesn`t want to put the price down.. He has no idea about brands....for him, this is just a vintage toy, and becouse of that, it has to be expensive... and like many other sellers, he will try to sell it to people, who has no idea about brands too..... And like many other sellers, he will wait for that so long time, becouse in Bulgaria , very less people know about Breyer But anyway, the model is nice, but I`ll preffer a real Breyer :)) |

| The horse in question now resides with me :) Although he's quite a cute little thing he would need some serious restoration. His left ear is broken (missing half of it actually, but that's an easy fix) and the paint is in a horrible state. He is indeed the H.K.T.C. copy of Maureen Love sculpture that is originally used by Breyer. Costi, if you're interested, I've got a classic Shire horse (Breyer) for sale :) You can e-mail me. (I'm the girl with the grey PAM ) |

Yes, it is a copy of the Breyer QH Stallion, but back in the early 1970s, Breyer leased the rights to this and several other molds from Hagen Renaker, a USA ceramic figurine company. The Hagen Renaker mold was called "Two Bits" and you can see it here (you'll have to scroll down the page): [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]So when you see a post saying a certain Breyer is a Maureen Love sculpt, it started out as a ceramic figurine. |
