Oh thanks Anna, I'll post some photos of it soon. Your's is 1:22 isn't it? Mine is 1:20 scale. Great! Yes, mine is 1:22, so they are quite similar sized. - Bacardi King wrote:

Wow, you have zebra friend! Amazing!!! I have seen your photos on Flickr, they are very useful for sculptors indeed and will be also useful as a reference for painting stripes on this figure. - Zelvik wrote:

Yes, I think it will take much time to paint all the stripes on the zebra but I always wanted to try. I will see if I will offer painted versions for sale or only unpainted though. - Kikimalou wrote:

Grevy's zebras are harmonious Anna, just like donkeys And your model is very fine, even if I prefer long necked Grevy's zebras. Yes, Christophe, I think all wild animals have proportions harmonious for their own species. I had in mind comparison to horse proportions, which are quite different. I made small change in Photoshop but with longer neck it looks too horsey to me. I will stay with shorter version to save the donkeyish look which I wanted to make. | I think you're right about your zebra's neck Anna and is clearly seen in the altered photo. The Grevy Zebras neck is stronger and shorter. _________________ Miguel [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Likaon - Wildlife Models Shop http://www.likaonmodels.com/ My homemade models : www.signatustudio.com |

Oh thanks Anna, I'll post some photos of it soon. Your's is 1:22 isn't it? Mine is 1:20 scale. Surely I will love them both. To make a beautiful herd of Grevy's zebras !!.
I also planned to make a sculpture about my friend, Füles, but I think next to other Grévy's I won't make it Noemi, I don't think you should leave the idea of sculpting your friend Füles. I think it even if there is more handmade Grevy's zebras already made or are "in progress" none of them is real portrait of your four legged friend, your idea is something unique. When you sculpting portrait of the animal you love, it is really something special. - signatus wrote:

I'm always doubting about many things in my sculptures, especially proportions, sometimes it makes me dizzy So I decided to make small help in photoshop to check if the silhouette of this zebra is more or less like the real one. That's how I check it: I found a photo of zebra in very similar pose and outlined the animal to make it easier to compare with photo. Thanks to this methode I found few issues in my work. I already corrected them, you will see in next photos of the zebra. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here I noticed the wrong upper line of my zebra and too small muscle on the arm. I decided to add more shaggy mane also. I think head position would be better if I set it lower but the current high position is also possible, I believe. And here are photos of the zebra as it is for now. Probably almost finished. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Still some differences in top line, I will try to fix it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Fantastic! Just one question, because I didn't notice this info - what's the scale? Will you be selling painted versions as well? _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

| This is looking very nice Anna, thanks for sharing your progress images which I find very interesting. I also do what you did, I put a picture of my model on the computer then compare in Photoshop...a very helpful way to see the accuracy. I think the painting will be the hardest part since Grevys have such thin, parallel stripes. Have you thought about making a stencil some how? I've seen that in the factories they sometimes use stencils and airbrush which is very fast and uniform. I know the Britains giraffe and zebra was painted with stencil. Perhaps you could take some clear vinyl plastic sheets and cut out the stripe patters with a knife then airbrush. I'm thinking cutting out sections for say the back, the neck etc since one sheet can't wrap around the figure. I don't know if that would work, just an idea. Maybe something like this but with stripes.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

I'm not sure yet how much time it will take to paint one such zebra so I can't say if I will be able to sell painted versions. But I hope so. I'd love to get one painted by you! But if you won't be selling painted ones, I'll try to paint one myself Because I'm buying one for sure, as I love this species! _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |
