COLLECTA 2018: DINOSAURS - Estemmenosuchus with Movable Jaw - Deluxe 1 by 20 Scale (88816)

I've got this good news from Collecta :

"Estemmenosuchus, another early pre-dinosaur animal. A strange large skulled animal that had antler-like growths on the top and sides of its head that may have been used for mating bouts or species recognition. It is to be an articulated model."

Just like Susanne, I have no idea of such a thing with this name could be. Well, at least I could understand the suchus part and it made me think I'd find one of these impressive prehistoric crocodile like creatures. Just after opening the topic, I confess I haven't got impressed with the animal, actually it has a quite funny looking. Expectations have a huge interference in our way of seeing things. :)
Back to the figure, it seems a very interesting choice and surely not the most attractive for the traditional collectors of monster dinos but, fairly interesting to those avid for having something unusual. Maybe some day it will join my edaphosaurus.

It is not. It is a synapsid (dinocephalia), not a diapsid like crocodiles, dinosaurs and birds.

" Maybe some day it will join my edaphosaurus. "

It is a good idea because your Edaphosaurus is an other permian synapsid. But Edaphosaurus is not a therapsid like me and Estemmenosuchus. Thus we are two cousins! A good reason to get this Estemmenosuchus for my home!

Well, I have a mixed feeling about this one. First i'm very pleased that CollectA made this iconic species because synapsids are rare in the toy world, except dimetrodons of course.

But I'm not very pleased with the movable jaw, the colours and I also need to see more pics to know exactly if this model is a hit for me.

Estemmenosuchus was once represented in the Jurassic Park toys series. So, it's not the first time this species was represented as a figure.

Brilliant Permian species , but the color scheme not very ...The pista color..hmmmm... most creatures from this period of evolution are strange looking !! This is one classic species !!

I agree, it's time to see less Cretaceous animals every years, I still have free space on my permian, Carboniferous or Trias shelves

Yes, me too.
We need more Carboniferous animals, we have none, i believe. But i can use the Collecta dragonfly as a meganeura. ^^
