| Splendid photo-story again! I have a question though, if someone has any clue. After seeing the Papo alligators appearing several times in Amazonia, where they don't really belong, my mind is processing another approach.. Could it be this Papo alligator is actually a Caiman? |

| The capybara's pose works well in very different situations. First, an unconcerned pose, then a threatened pose and finally an escaping pose. All equally convincing. Great photos of the alligators (caimans?) too. |

| This is my territory guy. Get outta here if you don't want your mandible broken! Great photo history mon ami :* Tough these are Mississippi alligators and they don't appear in Amazonia unless some human released them here! (incidentally, I saw after that spacelab also tought in this) _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| Superb pictures again! Amazonia is among my favorite subjects. About the caiman question, you could use the Safari model but I don't think it would result equally realistic. Papo crocodile baby is probably a caiman too. Spacelab's observation is very intringuing because the words used for alligator and caiman are the same in some languages. Including Portuguese language, the one used in Brazil, thus Amazonia. Caimans and alligators are all called jacaré. The black caiman, commonly seen in Amazonia, is culturally much more relevant for European culture than alligators. At least for Latin countries as it is Spain, France or Portugal. When we watched these documentaries about the huge jacarés of Amazonia, those were obviously the black caiman and not the American alligator. My opinion is that Papo«s model is an American alligator and a very good one but as it happened with the croc baby, this is always a debatable subject. |

Are you sure? Not mistaking black caimans with the much more famous spectacled caimans? Spectacled is what is seen in every zoo and aquarium. Black caiman is a true rarity in captivity and I never saw one, also I never saw the species taxidermized in museums and almost not in animal or natural history books, where spectacled caimans are relevant instead. Tough the true "jacaré" (yacaré in Spanish) is not Caiman crocodilus nor Melanosuchus niger (nor Alligator mississippiensis of course), but Caiman yacare, the yacare caiman. I was talking about their natural habitat and documentaries, not zoos. Yes, I have the idea that spetacled caimans are more common but those almost legendary large caimans of Amazonia only can be black caimans because spetacled caimans are very small. they are even known as jacaretinga in Brazil that I believe works as a kind of diminutive for jacaré. _________________ My collection:- (Details):
