Thanks Paige for providing these extra pictures. I continue intrigued about this figure.
There's no doubts the model is very well sculpted, proportions are really good, texture is perfect, painting is good, face is wonderful. Thus, a brilliant piece. Though, the pose seems so unexpressive, symmetrical model, isn't it? Probably the most precise rendition of the species but a little excitment was needed, I guess. Interesting the comparison with the Arctic wolf, a model perfect in all extent with a virtuous pose.

It is a lovely wolf, - I just do not so much like that shiny, coal-black line across the shoulders.
Some wolves do have a stripe, but it does not stand out like that

On this photo there's a quite similar individual with our Safari wolf. Safari is a bit blonder..but it's almost like that.

Very good look alike

I completely agree that the figure itself suffers from a static posture. Thats why the arctic wolf will still probably remain my favorite, its pose is a classic arctic investigating something. The strip on its shoulders... is accurate technically. Most wolves it blends in better because they usually have more black tipped fur along their dorsal side. And thus the strip doesnt stand out so much. However, there are individuals that are rather pale like this one, and still have that stripe across the shoulders. As usual with safari figures it could have been blended a little better, but I still appreciate the detail nonetheless as it is missing in all other models.

So I haven't been updating this thread for a while because I have been working on cataloging my collection for personal use. I am very nearly done with that project and will be moving on to other personal collection projects, and I have been thinking of other forum projects to do. For those of you who enjoyed this thread, please feel free to comment on the following ideas.

I can turn this thread into a "figure feature" thread. Sort of like the "show us yours" where I present one figure of my collection every day/week. I could either go by group (feature each african elephant until I am done, then move on to the next group) or just random selection/request.

Continue with comparison group photos as I get new figures.

Or just periodically update with close ups and discussions as needed (by requests).

So, any thoughts? I would like to help anyone with their indecision or at least entertain, and many of you have expressed how my photos help you decide on figures for your own collection so I thought I would crowdsource. I look forward to hearing from you!

My suggestion would be to
1. do what ever you most enjoy doing and/or
2. do what gets you the responses you most enjoy

I have gone literally years barely posting at times because of time constraints and my collecting interests drifting to other areas for a while. But I do enjoy posting things, especially when I find something different or interesting that I think everyone would enjoy seeing. We all enjoy looking at animals here, regardless of which ones people choose to show. I am sure I am not the only one who goes and look at a page of flamingos or such at the Wiki just for fun sometimes.

I have no suggestions, but I'm sure whatever you decide will be most enjoyable for us!

I'd like to see them in family groups e.g. all the quarter horses, all the chinstrap penguins etc

Ok, here is the evolution of this thread that I have decided on. I will be doing a "close up" of one figure (hopefully) every couple of days, up to 3 times a week. They won't be walkarounds proper, just an opportunity to show a figure off and incorporate my outdoor photography with them. For right now many of them will likely be older models from my childhood. I will also do some group photos like before and shelf display sets but those will be less common, and probably mostly by request. So here goes...

First up, K&M wolf pup: 1 of 2 pups (It wouldn't be proper for a wolf enthusiast to start off with any other group but wolves).
The story behind this model is my older brother was the one who bought it from a zoo gift shop years ago. If he had a better memory, he probably was collecting when PV and K&M and AAA were in their golden age selling their models (unfortunately he remembers nothing ). Anyway, I inherited his small animal collection as he grew older and I know I have lost a handful of his treasures when I was still playing with them. But this one has always been a favorite and I dream of finding the other pup and adult someday. Given this unique species and model itself, it sits proudly on my shelves of wolves, right in front, always. He is a little battered from my old storage system and play, but I am so glad he never got lost in my sandbox/bermuda triangle volcanoes I used to make with the backyard hose as a kid...
