| Papo Limited Edition Spinosaurus 2019 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Papo Stegosaurus repaint for 2019. Interestingly it looks way more yellowish in person than I anticipated from the catalog shots. The contrast between red and brown in the original paint job witht he more white background was quite cool. There was also a light brownish wash over the prototype. The final product I might say is a bit disappointing. | Papo prehistoric line is very popular and I really find many figures really fantastic and a few others are almost ridiculous, without offense, of course. I love the limited edition spinosaurus as I think I never liked before any other dino and some figures, like the kaprosuchus, are not easy to resist. On the other hand there is the last smilodon, Tylosaurus or baryonyx that are hard to understand. I think all this non sense contributes to the popularity of the company and one thing is for sure, they are incredibly detailed and complete a remarkable series. |

I do like the idea of a different style, color and stripe pattern on it, it's quite dynamic, although a bit monstruous. The mane is an interesting approach, despite it lacking any evidence for it. |

Yes, Papo dinos are a bit of a hit and miss, some are amazing, others not quite as much. Their appeal is on detailing and paint application I suppose, more than accuracy. |

| Next on the line, my collection of Bilinski Art Models, sculpted by Brazilian artist Guilherme Bilinski. All of them are made of resin and hand painted by the artist. Bilinski usually does runs of about 30 pieces for each model, although lately he's done larger batches of newer pieces. Nevertheless, his sculptures are quite limited, so, when he releases a new one, it tends to sell out quickly. His first model ever produced for sale was this T.rex, around 2014 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Also released in 2014, his second model, Carcharodontosaurus [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Later in 2014 he released two more models, one of them being a new Tyrannosaurus rex, inspired in the Jurassic Park design for the creature. I asked him to make a paint job based on the description of the animal in the Jurassic Park novel, kind of dry blood color. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And the other 2014 piece was his incredible Oxalaia quilombensis, already inspired in the Ibrahim paper on Spinosaurus, depicting Oxalaia with shorter hind limbs and webbed feet. | Very talented sculptor indeed. Dry blood colours sound a little mournful but the result is amazing! I think a black Rex could work also but surely not a very original idea. |

| Continuing with the Bilinski pieces, the next one I got from him was a very limited 2017 release. A Pycnonemosaurus bust, limited to about 10 copies. He had sculpted this for a paleoart contest held at the Brazilian Paleontology Congress that year. He won third place in the contest with this piece. After that, he decided to release this limited run of 10 pieces, and I was lucky enough to grab one for myself. The color scheme was also a custom choice of mine. So here's it, enjoy! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] After that Guilherme launched a new line, the Ancient Kingdom Collection. First in this new line of 1:30 scale models, is Saurophaganax. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The second model in the Ancient Kingdom series, Momma Paras, a female Parasaurolophus cyrtocristatus with two babies [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Number three in the set is Roberta, Rexy as seen on JP. The original release consisted of about 30 units, but later due to high demand Bilinski made a second wave for international customers. Then, after that a smaller run was produced with a few updates to the sculpt. I'm glad I manage to grab the more exclusive version, from the later run. Not only for the exclusivity, but the model has a more interesting pose, more curved down neck and repositioned leg. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Nº 4 was Stegosaurus stenops [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
