| Do you remember my SCHLEICH Malayan tapir with his white socks and hears, his smiling face ? He was fed up to see the SAFARI Ltd one laughing so he asked me a new costume. As you maybe know, it's the second time I try to help a model... I did this costume for him A bit of context for my friend Roger The Baird's tapir (Tapirus bairdii) is one of the four species of tapir still alive and the biggest of the American tapirs. It is also the largest land animal from Mexico to the north of Colombia. Baird’s Tapirs can reach 2 metres in length and 1.2 metres in height. Baird’s Tapir is in danger of extinction. Except human beings, the only ennemies of the Baird's tapir are the big American crocs and adult jaguars. Now come back to the pics

Thank you very much Phil . About the paintjob, I discovered some small problems when I was the pics... My eyes coudn't saw them when I was painting the tapir. So, here are some closer pics. I am a bit shy to show you these because... They showed me my skills are not as good as Ithought Poor Kiki

| WOW ! That is a fantastic tapir you made out of an ordinary tapir The paint job is great, if you look at the "professional" painjobs, there are also little irregular things, hardly visible to the eye And thankyou for telling about this impressive animal and the endangered situation. Isn`t it horrible so many endangered species that most people don`t even know about Christophe, we just got a new artist in the forum |

| Thank you all for your kind words. It is really important for a crazy French macaque to share this with you. I'm happy you like it Samson : I can't wait to see your repainted one Harriet : I hope one day I will be able to do a real fantastic repaint but you words reached my heart . I was always looking at your giraffe when I did this one Sergey : I will do a pic soon Ania : I feel better how your work is fantastic. It help me to make progress. Susanne : Rogério : Next time I will repaint a Schleich tapir like a Charolais or Simmental Minhea : I used Prince August acrylic paints. I washed the model and applied a grey base, then the basic colours. Then I made several wash drawing to give more relief and "camaïeu". I will improve the technic on my next victim. I think the more wash drawing the better. We will see... It is absolutely not sticky. |

| Looks awesome! Just one question what's a wash drawing? Are you talking about the creamy yellow area(neck/face area). Again, fantastic variation! I was going to do it with the Safari tapir, but will try it with the Schleich. |

Are you talking about the creamy yellow area(neck/face area). Again, fantastic variation! I was going to do it with the Safari tapir, but will try it with the Schleich. Thanks Balti, What I called a wash drawing is something like a lavis, paint diluted in water and several wash to let only some pigments. I used it on the whole tapir. First with the creamy area but I have to improve the technic and on the body and top of the head. The more you paint a zone, the more it is dark. The colour doesn't change, only the numberof layers and so the number of pigments. I think I was better with the body. I hope it could help |

| What a gorgeous piece of moo! I absolutely love that color - and look at the oh so subtle dappling where the light and dark patches meet! Wish I was a good enough painter to try that... |

| Hey Christophe, but that it is only your second painting, this succeeded very well indeed, respect, keep it up. And I know how difficult such color transitions are to paint. Also, it is again described very entertaining, thank you Crazy French macaque . Here are some photos of a Baird's Tapir at the Berlin Zoo: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In Europe there are only one in Berlin, Chico, and in Wuppertal with 4 or 5 individuals with good breeding. Chico was the first offspring in Wuppertal. And by the way, two images of a grace under water, have fun : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]BG |

| Smiling tapirs always make me smile Great repaint, made me want to customise some tapir model into Brazilian tapir, my favourite tapir species. _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

| I just think the Safari Malayan tapir has more of the Baird's body type to convert than the Papo. I'm sure either will look good after you get done repainting. I am going to repaint my Safari tapir. What zoo is the baby hippo from? |

This forum is so educative, everyday something new about animals Ralf, great photos, I love both:tapir's and hippo's photos. Wonderful, thank You for showing Balti I think this is probably pygmy hippo from Berlin zoo maybe? If I have choose to favorite specie of tapir it must be mountain tapir, they are extremely cute Look like black sofa which had drunken milk [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
