| The right one seems similar to the variation found in the Animal Planet Big Foot set. Which is the same as the Wild Quest version. The left one is indeed the snow variation from the Ice Quest series. It probably intends to represent a snow leopard even if there is no comparison between this and a snow leopard. This model has been always known as a lynx among Chap Mei collectors. Maybe they made a lynx with a long tail because they thought the short tail could not be appealing. |

| Thank you Jean-Luc! Like you, I got the same to customize him in true caracal, cuting its too long tail and canceling its spots but since Schleich is going to release one very soon (even two!), I keep them on their "cryptozoologic" looks! :) |

| Undoubtfully it looks more like a caracal but it is sold together with Pleistocene fauna from Americas like smilodon, dire wolf, mammoth, etc and belongs to Arctic sets. Chap Mei is not scientifically accurate but that's not a set to put a caracal or serval. Have you ever considered it to be inspired in a prehistoric creature of the American Pleistocene? Maybe some day we can find a paleoart with a similar rendition. Cryptic is also a good guess because it is also sold with cryptic creatures. Whatever it is, it is the most iconic Chap Mei animal figure, I guess. |

| Oh yes, they maybe are 2 geographic versions (northern and southern) of Pleistocen "Lynx issidorensis", ancestry form of nowadays lynces but bigger, longer with a longer tail! :)
Do you know the Smilodon and above all "Dire wolves" models they were sold with? |

Do you know the Smilodon and above all "Dire wolves" models they were sold with? Oh, it was exactly the species I was trying to remember. Take a look at this defunct forum [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Edit: Meanwhile I've found a blog which supports your identification. check here! |

You're welcome. Maybe some day we list it as a prehistoric lynx. The wolf is not missing on TAW, it is just listed as a regular wolf. Chap Mei uses the figures in several sets with color variations. and interchangeably so it is hard sometimes to know which species it is supposed to be. Probably both and I will stry to study the sets and add the correct variation on dire wolf page. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
