| what an exciting project! i pretty much know squat about sloths, but is his neck too long and/or too well-defined? i get a strong feeling of shoulders-neck-head like a primate, whereas the neck does not stand out as a feature when i look at sloths. maybe if he were stretching his head up, but looking forward like that, it just doesn't feel right to me. but as i said, my knowledge of sloths is almost zero...
i have to confess, sloth faces kind of creep me out, like they're Zombie Chihuahuas from Outer Space. But i will get this figure, since i'm sworn to buy all figures made with STS's help. _________________ carolynn

| Here's a short message from James, which explains the pose with sticking claws into the branch... "One of the most important areas on the Sloth is the claws, they must look sharp and long as this is a characteristic of this particular animal. The problem we faced was how to show the details of the claws whilst still passing safety requirements for toys. If the claws are too long and sharp then it will fail as a toy (due to sharp points), so freeing a hand from the tree would mean shortening the claws to restrict sharp points and so enabling the animal to pass safety requirements. Also, another potential problem with the claws protruding too much was the moulding - they could deform when removed from the mould, so making them a little shorter in order to reduce problems when removing the model from the mould would have been another outcome of having 1 hand free. Hence although I agree completely that this would have added to the aesthetic nature of the Sloth and greatly increased his movement, unfortunately this wasn't an option.
By having all 4 limbs on the branches we were able to highlight this particular and very important feature of the 2 toed sloth. I hope everyone agrees with our choice???" _________________ Robert

| Those reasons did not even occur to me, but really do make sense, we don't want little kids poking each other's eyes out now do we? And I can see the problem with models going deformed... that would waste time, effort, and money hoping for good figures to come out and most not coming out so well. I agree with the pose then. Thank you skysthelimit for the info. |

| That really makes sense. Honestly, probably the very first thing I noticed when I saw the original pictures Roger posted were the absolutely gorgeous, long claws. It would be a shame not to see those clearly.
Thank you for posting that, Robert!

| Thankyou to James for telling and to Robert for passing it om I learned something, and it is SO interesting to get a glimpse into the magic world of designing model animals As Wolfiehound says, we were not pleased with all the delays we have seen this year ! _________________ SUSANNE |

| Subject: 2nd round of 2013 Mojo Fun Linnaeus's two-toed sloth! Sun Sep 23, 2012 11:09 pm | |
| Dear friends! Here are more pictures of the sloth development. This time Mojo decided to share with us several pictures showing the subtle changes taking place day by day. :surprised: I personally find it very generous from the brand, knowing how important is to keep secretively the development of products in commercial areas. Anyway I also find that it has a huge interest to those members that love to follow all the steps a figure need to take before arriving to our collections. Below you can see pictures from 3 different stages and your comments are very welcome and will be taken seriously to contribute to the best quality possible of final figure. As comparison you can check the pictures of the first round on this topic. You can read more about Linnaeus's two-toed sloth on this Wikipedia article. 19 September:face and snout changes according with STS members comments. |

| i'm not sure i see the changes; that is, i can see it's changed because his hair is different, but i don't know enough about sloths to understand what was done, but i can see that when it's painted, it will be wonderful. i think that all one color like this, my brain keeps thinking it's a very strange Wookiee. However I am admiring those beautiful claws!! they really are spectacular and when you look at the "claws" on other sloth models, to Mr. James for the courage to be accurate. they look like claws, not stubby bits of plastic. Looking at this figure, you understand that a sloth can inflict some serious damage if it takes a swipe at a predator. and Mr. James and Mojo for including STS in this project. I am enjoying watching it develop. Thank you for sharing. _________________ carolynn
