| So here's the story of how i got into collecting hippos : when i was just 2 years old i was watching a turkish cartoon called ''mimocan heryerde'' and there was a hippo character called hopisu. and then i asked my mom what animal it was and she said its a hippopotamus. i wantd to see a real hippo and my mom showed me the photo of a hippo from the internet and i loved them i thought they were so cute. the next day we were shopping and when we were passing through the toys i grabbed a hippo plush without my parents noticing and brought it all the way to the cashier and put it there and they just bought it. and then a few years passed and now i have 182 hippos |

| What a great story! Sounds like a superb collection. I would love to see it on forum sometime! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. I love this, it's such a common theme among collectors the world over - we pick up one animal at some point, and then somehow a few years later the house is full of them and we don't really know how or why it happened but we just happily accept that we collect all the dogs/horses/beetles/bears/foxes/hippos now _________________ |

| Jolie, thanks for your beautiful pictures. Despite my poor internet connection, I could upload all of them on TAW and thanks to your great pictures the result is a beautiful page on TAW https://toyanimal.info/wiki/Safari_TOOB_100685_Asian_Animals Nice toob mixing common animals as it is the tiger, panda with very unusual ones as it is the Philippine eagle (3rd on TAW) or the saiga antelope (just 2nd). - Hippocollector wrote:

Oh, I love so much this kind of stories. Especially because your Mother is a part of it. I still collect postcards of religious buildings thanks to my Mother and I'll do it forever. I'm really very curious to see your collection and I hope I can contribute to it in any way. |

| Thanks for the beautiful pictures, Jolie! A perfectly placed Lego block at a right angle makes it easy to take my measurements . |

| Nevertheless, you still won the game because I was too late to compete! About 7% off isn't bad, I often do much worse. The Lego block is very slightly behind the gharial, so the block is slightly larger than it seems. And I don't know whether Jolie measured the gharial along the curves of the tail; it may not be entirely straight, which would add a few mm. It looks like a female gharial because it lacks a clear ghara (growth on the tip of the nose). That's good for 1/32 scale because females tend to be smaller than males.
I had already accepted that the Saiga antelope wouldn't be 1/32 scale. Unfortunately, the orangutan isn't either. No lack of tigers at this scale, but it doesn't do any harm to have one more. |

It was not a competition, I was just trying to see if I was doing it right but I can always try to check with figures I own myself. Getting a tiger and a gharial female is not bad at all, I don't remember seeing you showing gharials at this scale and they're not that common. That's for sure the saiga antelope figure which fits closer to 1:32 scale. Maybe you can use it until getting a better size match. Personally, the most interesting to me is the Philippine eagle, it is a Pithecophaga, it seems there is a thrend of monkey eating birds, this one and the Harpy has been quite rare in this hobby and now we have a few to choose. |

| Yes, the Philippine eagle looks best to me too. The way the Saiga antelope is painted is not so exciting. Safari appears to have used the photo on the Wikipedia page for their model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saiga_antelope#/media/File:Saiga_antelope_at_the_Stepnoi_Sanctuary.jpg |

| Well spotted, Roger! Actually it is so evident that I'm not surprised if they did it on purpose. Some main pictures on Wikipedia articles last for a long time and they are what Google shows when we write the title of the article. So, if they did it, it is a clever move. I really would love Safari to make a larger version of it and with the same exact pose. |

| Exactly, the Hippopotamus page on TAW gives you a good overview of the kind of figures we list. You can find a few slightly cartoonish models like the Bullyland micro or the Safari Authentics but those are sublines of famous animal themed brands. Better to start with those more realistic from famous brands which you notice that are missing on TAW. |

Is the croc smiley trash for a hippo? You can show all your hippos on forum. You can open a topic in Collections thread as the one you can see in my signature about my collection of foxes. For TAW you can start with the brands already listed there. I'm currently working Nayab section and manyy hippos are missing, do you collect these? It is not my function to give a use to your beautiful logo but we are starting soon a contest for a new 2023 forum banner and I'd love to see you participating on it. All banners, regardless of the final result, are displayed for some time. |

| Great, we're having a good start. You can see a few Nayab hippos in this catalogue picture. I think none of your models is a calf but sometimes Nayab smaller figures are used as calves. As I don't know their sizes could you please check if they match any of these? Set 85 and 560 perhaps? |
