| Love it! ? Congrats for cataloging your beautiful collection, it's a hard job but also much fun doing it. My cataloging experience comes mostly from my record collection (even a harder job as there are so many parameters in each one) and it took me almost a year to complete it. I had a fantastic time doing it! Bravo! |

| Thank you Andreas, Susanne, Kostas, Alain, and Taylor! Susanne, my elephant seal is remarkably flexible for his size. My cataloguing took forever because I was also trying to help TAW as well with models I had that weren't on the site. But I am glad it is done! Now I need to professionally photograph them all. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | And now Asia, Oceania, and South America! Full book case display: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Asian elephants and tigers: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Primates, camels, antelope, etc.: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Rhinos, pandas, yaks, etc.: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]South America and Oceania (jaguars, tapirs, primates, dingoes, and marsupials): [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Also, something sort of interesting. While I was cataloging I also noted the conservation status of every species in my collection I could. I was very surprised to find the results here but also the status of many species as I researched. Here we go: Least concern: 375 species Near threatened: 46 Threatened: 3 Vulnerable: 94 Endangered: 73 Critically endangered: 50 Not assessed/data deficient: 48 Extinct/extinct in the wild: 14 This did not include animals I couldn't positively identify (aka generic figures), domesticated species, or long extinct species (dinosaurs). _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Your shelves look so much neater than mine And a truly great number of figures, mine totalled up to about 1200 individuals with 300 or so domestic and 900 or so wild and sea _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. | Thank you Roger, Adam, Andreas, and Taylor! I know with my displays you can't clearly see all the models, so if you need closer photos I can comply easily. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Superb collection! I counted 703 different species. Just curious, do you have any numbers about what the most common species are? |

| Thank you Fernando and Roger!
The most commonly represented species in my collection are generally what you would expect; african lions, tigers (I only have one that I consider siberian, the others I just leave as bengal), giraffes, lowland gorillas, whitetail deer, grizzly/brown bears, nile crocodiles, scarlet macaws, bald eagles, red kangaroos, gray wolves, american bison, great white sharks, humpback whales, sea lions, bottlenose dolphins... most of these could be broken down into subspecies according to TAW/personal preference, but unless it clearly could be defined as a separate subspecies for my purposes I left them as "generic" giraffe for instance.
The other issue in that discussion (and it applies to my data on conservation status as well) is that companies don't specify species and/or common ones are preferred over rarer animals. People recognize a tiger over a binturong for example, and would buy the former rather than the latter.
I will share some numbers of species in my collection with my next upload. :) _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Thank you Alain. What do you mean by compulsive?... Do you think 40+ tigers is compulsive? Because if so... you haven't seen anything yet! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. My impression is that your collection is quite a complete "sample" of the species that modern companies make, so that's very interesting. Whitetail deer and scarlet macaws are the most unexpected ones to me, they weren't very common among vintage companies (marine life also wasn't common). |

Ha, my family asks the same thing. I got my first Schleich figures at age 3. They were [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] And this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Shortly after that trip to the store I remember my dad wanted to get me a family of pigs (again, old Schleich) and though my mom said I only needed 1 piglet, my dad insisted that pigs had litters of babies, not just one at a time, and we walked out with 5 pigs total. I "officially" started collecting in 2009, and haven't stopped since. Yes, some of my figures were inherited, my brother had some old AAA and I bought his Paposaur collection from him when he got married and didn't want kids breaking them. But too, I have 6 older siblings who occassionaly find me models or I go visit them and find new toy stores. :) So, it's really only "big" because its been a lifelong endeavor essentially. And I am usually not too picky over models. - rogerpgvg wrote:

I use the word "common" comparatively within a category (from my own personal delineation). I.e. great white sharks are the most common shark in my collection of sharks, but I only have 9 total. Same for macaws. I do have quite a few whitetail deer though. Your description fits my collection well though now that you say it. I collect anything that strikes my fancy, so I have all 6 big brands in my collection, lesser known modern companies like Toy Fish Factory, some japanesw models, and some Chinamals if the sculpt is decent. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs.
