Beautiful models, I love the Cob, what drama! All of them are really exceptional and unique. I like that kind of grumpy looking one. Laughing

A lovely selection, what varied breeds! My favourite has to be the adorable painted foal, you can almost feel the fluffy fuzziness of that coat, with so much texture and the soft colour too. Look forward to seeing what colours the others end up Smile

Oh, they're all lovely! I like the mare and foal resins, very sweet to have them as a pair and the poses look like they'll make for adorable poses together once they're in colour. Not a breed I know, is there a certain colour they're likely to be? Sadly I know very little about Polish breeds, which is weird when you think how close our countries are - thanks to the popularity of stock and gaited breeds there's way more talk and info and photos and models for American horses from the other side of the world, than one of our own European neighbours.

The little shire foal is a darling, too, and that is a horse I know well - I grew up next to a breeder and judge who was very involved with the breed society, so I made dear friends with the whole herd, and he used to get me to go and visit and cuddle the shy foals to help socialise them, which was great fun Laughing

Thank you, George! Smile
Polish Coldbloods are typically bay, black, chestnut, with or without roan. The chestnut ones are often flaxen. I've seen a dun one too, but can't confirm if he was purebred or not. I think grey ones must exist too but are not very common.

Sounds like a lot of fun, helping with socializing Shire foals! I don't think I have seen a Shire foal in real yet. I've seen adult Shires during a Shire Show and they were very impressive.

Maybe the Polish horses aren't different enough to be popular outside of the country? They look quite a lot like some of the German breeds for example. Poland has 3 breeds of warmblood horses (Wielkopolski - tall warmblood almost identical to Trakheners, Małopolski - smaller warmblood with more Arabian influence, and Silesian - heavy warmblood suitable for driving), one draft breed with at least 3 types (I think the types used to be separate breeds in the past, I'm not sure), and 3 breeds of ponies: Huculs, Koniks, and Felin (new breed, riding type). Huculs aka Carpathian ponies are actually more of an international breed as they come from various regions of the Carpathian mountains.
I think Koniks are possibly the best known of the Polish breeds, outside of the country. And Polish Arabians but they aren't a separate breed Laughing

I think it might be a bit of that, they're similar to other warmbloods, cos all warmbloods are similar to other warmbloods Laughing
There's only so many pages books - and now websites - want to devote to yet more warmbloods, so they stick in the popular ones (which are mostly an assortment of German named ones, with maybe a mention the Dutch), and leave out any which sound like 'just another warmblood', ignoring countries' proud history of breeding great horses.

I've got one book which has pages for the Wielkopolski and Małopolski, and as with almost all the other WB breeds in it, their description is so generic I doubt I could name a single conformational feature which tells them apart from any other.

It's a category which is already a confusion for model horses, many many of them are just 'warmblood' moulds, and although some are sculpted as a certain warmblood breed, sometimes even a portrait of a certain individual horse with a known pedigree, the companies don't always follow by releasing them in only fitting colours, so they can't just be 'Oh, the sculptor said it's that so it's that' Laughing

I mean, it took sitting down for hours with notepaper and five breed books for me to draw up a set of descriptions which agreed on likely conformation/build/features for each type of common warmblood, so I could go through my photos and split my models into breeds, based on things which could be ticked off my checklist. And I bet a lot of them could happily be chucked onto different pages, there's only so much you can do when every description says things like 'good all-round conformation' and 'well put-together limbs' Laughing

I agree, most modern warmblood horses look alike. Laughing

One cool thing about Małopolski horses is the fact that they can have any type of an Appaloosa pattern. Many warmblood breeds come only in solid colors, sometimes pinto but if you would like to paint a warmblood horse with an Appaloosa pattern Małopolski could be a good choice. However, you would probably like to find a mold that shows some more of the breed characteristic. Their heads often show Arabian influence (nothing extreme though, but you would notice big eyes and sometimes the profile is very slightly concave). And they don't have as long legs as most of the modern sport type breeds.

Excellent, tip, thank you! Perhaps the fairly recent standing warmblood mare mould, that's got a pretty face with big eyes and a slightly dished profile. I don't have any of them at the moment (I already painted the two I got hold of) but I'll keep the idea in mind for the future! I've got a little 'to-paint' list for whenever I manage to get the right moulds to suit breeds I want to create Laughing

It's a nice model but I think Małopolski horses rarely have these arched necks, maybe some of the stallions. Most of the ones I've seen had straight necks and they are rarely crested (although I knew mostly mares and geldings of this breed). With small customization, it could work nicely as a stallion. Here is an overview of spotted Małopolski horses from the National Stud in Michałów (otherwise known for their Arabians)

Thank you, thank you! cheers

The last newcomer of 2021 arrived yesterday! And it's a micro-mini Unicorn, the same as the Arabian mare it is designed and 3D printed by Leah Peretz of Canyon Spring Studio. I want to try out some fantasy colors on this model, for a change Smile

One of the biggest benefits of this 3D sculpt-and-print technique is how delicate and fine the pieces can be - those loose strands of mane and tail, if constructed in clay, would never hold strong enough to be cast from, if the artist could even get the stuff worked into such precise shapes in the first place. Doing it all digitally removes the issue of such tiny scales leaving the human hand too clumsy, and sculpting material too weak and soft. As well as being a beautiful little horse (well, unicorn) in it's own right, it's just amazing to see what can be done with technology!

It's amazing what they can do with 3D printing- both models are so tiny, though that mare was just precious. And a big thank you for the link, I was not aware of the Malopolski breed before it was brought up here (though I was aware of the Michalow stud, through its Arabians). Those are beautiful horses, you can definitely see the Arab in them.

Wow, the finish on that print is so crisp, especially for something so small. I need to check back in on the 3d printed scene if things can look that good and be that small. Congratulations!
