| Thank you friends! Axolotls! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]These guys can not only regenerate limbs if lost, but organs too! Their genome is massive; 32 billion individual strands! They also have both lungs and external gills, but they rely on gills the most for getting oxygen. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Last part for salamanders and we will move on to frogs! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The great crested newt has unique spots on the bellies of individuals, this can be used to ID them! Only the males have crests. Juvenile newts are called "efts". _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Eft is a quite weird name for juveniles, newtlings would sound much better. I hope you don't call Newtons to the old ones. |

| My apologies for no post Monday; I was battling some sort of plague. ::) Here is a double post instead! And just a reminder... moving into frogs now, this is well past my comfort zone. Some of the "fun facts" may get generalized if I can't find something exciting/fitting for the group presented If I get something classified wrong, please let me know; but in general I try follow TAW rather than my own beginner knowledge. Starting with something *easy*; Blue Poison Dart Frogs! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Poison dart frogs make their namesake poison (an alkaloid) from their diet of insects; one specific beetle from the Melyridae family is believed to be the key ingredient. Dyeing Dart Frog! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Because of the fact shared above, these frogs are often non-poisonous when in captivity (because the diet is so different). This makes them much safer for handling and for husbandry. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Paige I like when you go out your comfort zone, you manage it very well Nowadays Blue and Dying are considered as a single species with many variants. You have a very nice blue tribe in blue pics |

| Every time I read something about these creatures, even the experts involved in their identification and classification often seem lost. The vast number of morphs and the confusing classification of some species make this a truly challenging task even for those who only collect colorful figures based on a generic shape. |

| I love poison dart frogs! The blue poison dart frog is my favorite. I especially like the Schleich little one. Even Schleich's new one from 2023 I thought was done very nicely.

| Thanks everyone! And yes, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], I am feeling better. Strawberry poison dart frogs! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The content of the poison varies with their diet. The effects can range from irritants, to hallucinagens, convulsants, nerve poisons, and vasoconstrictants. One of the more common ways it kills is by affecting the contraction of muscles, particularly the heart (leading to heart failure). _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Very pretty strawberry field! The little one on the bottom right must have got lost... for me it's a Reticulated poison frog. If you can take a photo, it's missing on TAW |

| Green and black poison dart frog! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The chemicals in their poison do not readily deteriorate; these frogs can maintain this toxin for 2 years! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs.
