Odd, how the Stegodon grew its tusks so close together that, at least when adult, there was not enough room for its trunk to rest between its tusks, as it does in all the other proboscideans. It must have been a little bit inconvenient when the animal had to eat or drink, I imagine. Maybe this anomaly occurred only in some Stegodon specimens, while others were lucky enough not to have this particular problem. Could this be regarded as an evolutionary "mistake", I wonder? Well, at least it adds some intrigue, and food for thought, to the model!
