Congratulations Harriet! It's beautiful bird I think this is from serie "Bird Tales" but I may mistake something I thought it may be Willow Grouse or Ptarmigan

I just found the info: it is Ptarmigan :)

So it could be a female you're right, if it were a male it would have the red above the eye - the rock ptarmigan I already had is in winter plumage, it has the red bit.
