| Thanks Roger! Those big cat figures are really something to behold! I look at those beuaties, and then I look at the Papo 2012 assortment, and I just roll my eyes! Well, I'll just have to wait another year for Papo 2013's...(It's only 11 months, 21 days...)! Guess I'll have to start a new Papo 2013 thread...(Like someone did for Mojo 2013). |

Balty, the painting of some of these custom figures are absolutly impossible to this kind of brands. To mass produce a cat like those would result more expensive than the final price of a regular sized figure. Papo is only being defensive as Schleich, Economy in Europe is going very bad. Even Safari, as you know a North American brand, is being defensive this year. Mojo and CollectA are much more agressive because they need, they are still residual in the market. If you have a contact in Papo and you believe that they want to read our opinions, you only have to start this topic. :) |

If you have a contact in Papo and you believe that they want to read our opinions, you only have to start this topic. :) Eloquently stated! As much as I'd love to see these big cats in production, mass production just can't duplicate this level of quality without increasing the price point. While I know I would be willing to pay more for them, most people - noncollectors - wouldn't. These don't look at all like toys, and we must remember that toys are what Papo produces. Now, it does disappoint me that Papo won't be releasing any new big cats in 2012. I'd like to see them correct their Jaguar (and now Black Jaguar, too), and I'd love to see a new Leopard or Lynx, too. But I've pretty much given up on the idea of getting many of the smaller cats from Papo. They just don't seem to be interested, can't find a market for it, or maybe don't realize that there are other species of cats to be produced ( ) - whatever the reason, we'll have to take what we get from them. As per your wanting real-scale figures: hahahaha. These companies don't really care. Mostly because they want to produce figures that can grab someone's attention - someone who isn't necessarily well-versed in animal species - and hold their attention long enough for the person to purchase the figure. Size definitely plays a role in that. You could always do as I do - collect the figures you like, display them with figures from other companies that are the same scale. For instance, I have a 1:15 scale African Animals display that includes: Papo Cheetah, Papo Leopard, Papo Spotted Hyena, Wild Safari Spotted Hyena, Schleich Jackal, Wild Safari African Hunting Dog, Schleich female Cuvier's Gazelle, Vanishing Wild Reticulated Giraffe, Wildlife Wonders Hippo, Wild Safari Lioness, and many more. I've been presently surprised by how good the figures look displayed together, despite being from different companies. Just food for thought. |

| P.S. - Thanks, Roger, for providing that link to the custom big cats topic. That clarified everything for me.
P.P.S. - Balty, please don't get the wrong impression, I totally agree with you in your wanting a company to release real-scale figures, but I've given up waiting for them to do it. I collect figures I like, but I've taken to displaying them with same-scale figures whenever possible. Maybe someday it will be back in style to make figures scaled to one another, but for whatever reason, right now, it isn't the case. |

Thanks for your interesting post! 1:15 is a great scale with many figures to display! Most people is more devoted to 1:22 scale because of the Schleich zebras but it is much easier to find a good amount of figures in larger scales. :) |

| Yeah, i agree, we better can give up on wanting the right scale proportions from one brand... for me any scale is right, and like Sphyrna, we can use the different scales in different displays or so... I displayed my collections in species and related species, so from very small up to very big, so it doesn't matter to me at all. |

| I love the new dinosaurs from papo, my favourite ones are the brachiosaurus and the juvenile trexes and the running rex. Hope next year papo will bring some lemurs. |

Hope next year papo will bring some lemurs. Yes, yes ! Lemurs But preferably not the ringtailed ones. They are SO adorable, fun, great and beautyful, but there are other wonderful lemurs, too Yes aye aye and indri! Wonder why someone did not made them already. Colorata made an Aye-aye, but it's pretty hard to find now. Very well done considering it's itty-bitty Ohw What does it look like? Now you made me a curious lemur lover Colorata's Aye-aye was part of their Endangered Mammals Set. [img] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/img] Mine has a copyright of 2002, but I often see 2004 listed as the copyright, so it was released somewhere in the 2002 - 2004 timeframe. A Closeup of the Aye-aye: [img] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/img] I can't remember where I got the picture from (I didn't take it) but I think it was Ebay, possibly even from someone on this forum - I've had it a long time. I got my Aye-aye about 2 years ago, so they do turn up every now and then. |
