I wonder if this was originally a Zebro? Zebros were, if I'm to understand it correctly, an Iberian color variant of the now-extinct Tarpan, or wild horse. Apparently, it was due to the Zebro, which was striped, that when explorers first saw striped equids in Africa, they called them Zebras. I could be wrong about any/all of this, since I'm in no way an expert on horses - wild or domesticated. But I've seen convincing arguments for the presences of striped equids in the Iberian Peninsula in the past, and perhaps Papo, in all their uninformed glory, was trying to make that. I can't see why they would make a full on Zorse. They haven't made a Liger (which is actually a hybrid I'd buy haha!) or even a mule, so why a Zebra x horse hybrid? It just doesn't make sense to me. Plus, doing a Google search for images of a Zorse, there are a lot of options for what a Zorse would look like, with the pattern Papo chose not necessarily being the most common (or most striking). So maybe it's another situation like with their 2012 Baby Croc, which looks much more like a Black Caiman than it does like a baby crocodile. Maybe the "Zorse" is actually representative of a Zebro?? NOTE: Do Not do a Google Image search for "Zebro" unless you are looking for explicit pictures of male genitalia. I learned this the hard way - absolutely no pun inteneded. Apparently, Zebro has more than one meaning? Sure you get some pictures of horses - mostly Sorrias, but there are also an unsettling number of XXX rated pictures.

| A zorse is a zorse, of course of course... (old US TV reference)
TGF is calling it a Zorse and it looks quite deliberately so to me. It doesn't look too bad as such, but I would have preferred a Quagga. _________________ Tim :) ToyAnimal.info - The Toy Animal Collecting Wiki Animoblog Animobil.info Playmobil Animals

It probably is supposed to be a Zorse, it just seems like a really strange choice to me. Like I said, no Mule, no Beefalo, no Liger; all of those seem like more acceptable hybrids than a freakin' Zorse. I agree, a Quagga would have been better. Heck, even a Tarpan. Papo seems to get an awful lot of animals wrong, though, like their Baby Croc, which I still think will make a good stand in for a Black Caiman. It was just wishful thinking that they mislabelled the Zorse, and actually made a Zebro. As I said, I'm no expert at all on wild or domestic horses, so I have to defer to others who know more about them than I do. If someone who knows a lot about wild horses were to say, "yes, Chad, the Papo Zorse could be used as a stand in for a Zebro in a wildlife display." than I will go with it. Otherwise, it is interesting, but ultimately a useless figure for me since I primarly collect wild animals only (although, I include common feral animals (i.e. horses / "wild horses") that are often referred to as "Wild" - like Safari's Chincoteague Pony or Papo's Exmoor Pony, or any of the brands' Mustangs). A Zorse doesn't likely count as a wild animal - truly wild or commonly feral - so I probably won't be getting it.. |

| Hmmm, I am afraid that my English isn`t good enough to follow the finer nuances of the last couple of contributions But I look very much forward to having this Zorse on my shelf, - together with the mules, probably. Even if they certainly aren`t nice and friendly mules, they have nothing to do in the wild animal section. A horse and zebra wouldn`t mate in the wild. |

Sorry. I think I should have asked, does anyone who knows about wild horses - both wild and feral - know if Papo's new Zorse could be used as a stand in for the Zebro. Personally, I find it strange that Papo made a figure of this hybrid between a zebra and a horse when they've never made more commonly known hybrids like a mule, a beefalo, or even a liger. And why make it parrt of the Wild Animals series? Maybe they intended to make a Zebro (an extinct wild horse from France, Spain, and Portugal) and got the name wrong haha! But this is all just idle wondering. As has been so eloqently summed up before: a zorse is a zorse or course of course :) |

| Zorse or zebro, whatever it is, it's a HORRIBLE figure! As well as the whole disappointing Papo 2012 assortment! I really hope Papo reads this and like I stated before, they owe their fans big time for 2013! |

I don't think the oryx will be out until mid year --I also need to know how big it is to see if it is in good scale with Harriet's. If not, I will not buy it. |

I would assume that it would be much larger than Harriet's, since her masterpiece is 1:22 scale, which puts it in scale with many of Schleich's figures. Papo's figures tend to be larger - in the case of the Greater Kudu and Gnu, much larger. I assume the new figures will be closer to the size of the Kudu & the Gnu. The African Buffalo seems to be a bit of an outlier for their bovid figure scales haha. I could well be wrong, though. Guess we'll just have to wait and see |

Why are you so against this year's lineup? I mean, I'm not overly excited about the Zorse, but if I can do a few minor alterations and make it a stand in for a Tarpan, Zebro, or any other wild horse, I'm fine with it. Otherwise, sure, the line up isn't as exciting as, say, a new species of big cat, but it could always be worse. The sculpts look good, no absolute glaring errors that I've seen in the pictures. Once I see them in person, that may change. Am I missing something about these figures? Plus, from what I can see, they are introducing a Black Caiman; even though it's labeled "Baby Crocodile," it's definitely NOT what a baby crocodile looks like . And the Caribou looks good, as does the Oryx (although, it isn't as nice as Harriet's by a long shot, I don't have Harriet's, so Papo's will do for me :) ). Assuming the Oryx is the same scale as the Kudu, it will be in scale with Papo's big cats. So that's a win, right? |
