Cooper's Hawk. The Cooper's Hawk is not very common in Quebec; they usually are found in Ontario and Manitoba (as far as Canada goes). We had the great chance to have one around us last Summer.

It looks like the tree has had some of the branches lopped off at the ends?

I really like the little sparrow as well. It is very striking in appearance and the yellow is wonderful. It reminded me of the yellow on the firecrest and goldcrest birds we get here.

The hawk was actually perched in a dead tree. The leaves we see belong to the trees behind it.

As for the sparrow, both males and females share the yellow spots.
