| Okay, it's a book, but related to animals, a recent and fairly inexpensive paperback... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| The elephant price is in a different currency. How much would it be in Euro or USD?
Ok, I checked it's Turkish Lira so the price would be about 15 euro. Which is just about double the regular price.
Funny about the paperback book, maybe it's just a mistake? |

I just LOVE this okapi!! I have these little flocks on my wishlist. Maybe the seller is very optimistic I read the item description, it's fascinating! I suppose the right collector will be pleased to see this, and the seller encourages best offers How wonderful to see the original packaging with it. I had no idea these little flocks came in small window boxes?! - Sunny wrote:

In Germany, the Wagner animals were also offered in these adorable boxes: HERE |

| Looks good as long as you don't see the price. The shop has a lot of these Wagner flocked animals, though none as expensive as this one.
How are these felt animals made? Is it possible to do it yourself? |

How are these felt animals made? Is it possible to do it yourself? I received offers for nearly half price by the seller on their flocks I suppose the right collector just needs to come along to negotiate the happy medium. There seems to be lots of them in America and Germany. I think the body is formed first in the material it's made from - hollow plastic I think? Then the flock seems to be magnetized/sprayed on in some way, so that the little fibers stand out like fur. Then I think the coat is spay painted which gives them that lovely soft cloud-like appearance. It's fascinating to imagine them being made! These are different from most of the later 'modern' flocks, which just have a soft fuzzy coat on them. I wonder what the material is, because if you are using a glue - which usually has a wetness about it - to attach the fiber flocking, then perhaps some of the flock strands become hard all over with the wet glue? Interesting. |

| You can find very interesting information about the flocked animals by company Fritz Wagner and its "Künstlerschutz animals on this dollhouse collector's homepage. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here is a summary of the text in English. My English isn't that good, so the AI helped me a lot.... In 1973, the production lineup of Fritz Wagner KG included approximately 200 animal models crafted by Animal Miniatures and Artistic Workshops in Rödental-Coburg Germany. These were showcased at the 9th Salon Souvenir and Gift in Wiesbaden, offering a comprehensive view of the collection to customers worldwide.
The animal models were sculpted by Fritz Wagner, an academic sculptor and the company's founder. About 50 employees handcrafted zoo, forest, and domestic animals, along with exotics and dogs. These animals ranged in size from three to 25 centimeters and were made from an unbreakable hard-cast material coated with plastic. The painting was done by hand.
Since 1956, approximately 1,600 dozen animals were produced per week, as mentioned by the Wechselberger couple, the company owners, in a conversation with the editorial team of DAS SPIELZEUG. About 70 percent of the total production from Rödental was sold for export, particularly to the USA, Australia, South Africa, and European Community countries.
Main buyers included national and wildlife parks, zoological gardens, souvenir shops, and toy stores. At that time, there was a high demand for squirrel models in six different sizes, dogs and cats in baskets, and the standard animal collection.
The sale of these animal models in the United States experienced a significant surge after President Richard Nixon received a rare panda couple as a gift during his trip to China.Source: Das Spielzeug, November 1973, p. 1685 and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] More interesting information about Fritz Wagner - Künstlerschutz animals and the label you can find here in English: in English you can find here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Some price examples in Germany: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] _________________ Yvette

| Thanks Yvette, that's all very interesting. I wonder if these, due to the successful introduction in the US market had influenced in any way the Toy Concept series. |

Roger, that's a really interesting question. If that were the case, there would have to be similar figures from US companies. Here in Germany, however, I don't know of any company that produced such Tuchstaubtiere either around 1970 or today. On the other hand, there were already flocked animals around 1890, and these figures were very common at the time. They can possibly be regarded as the forerunners of these Wagner figures. Christoph has already presented some of these old and beautiful figures in the forum. _________________ Yvette

Hm, no - not these abolut great figures. I remembered others and thought you had shown them in the past. They look similar, just very little flocked. _________________ Yvette

I first associated these flocked animals with your figures. But yes, I agree with you, same for me, that´s the reason why I sell some figures for moments. By the way, I have one of these modern flocked animals in a box - Do you like it ? So I can more limited my collection and you got an flocked figure ? If I think about it carefully, I think - that was my intention... _________________ Yvette
