1:22 African Forest Elephant:UPDATE

I've started a new model of a juvenile African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis), it stands 5.5cm high at the shoulder which would make it 4ft tall in 1:22 scale.
This is the smallest figure I've sculpted so far and the small size has been challenging but a good learning experience. I'll update with more photos as the model progresses.

I sculpted a rough 3D model in the computer then printed out different views as a guide for my clay model.

That's a lovely model in the making! Are you planning to detail his underside extensively? I was looking at your setup and it doesn't appear as though he lifts up into the air on the pole(s) too readily. It's a constant hassle with my sculpting, anyways - the undersides and reaching there without mooshing everything up - so I'm just curious. A gorgeous sculpt!

Thanks, I like keeping progress shots for myself too so I can keep a record of how I made my models.

Thanks, Yes I plan to detail the underside as well, the model can be lifted off the metal poles easily as it is not secured down permanently. It is much easier to have the small figure on the poles so I don't actually have to hold the model most of the time and accidentally erase details with my hands.

Thanks for the info! I tend to use a permanent pole attachment so I can flip the entire model upside down on it if need be (and use the pole as the main casting sprue when making a mold), but I can see how removability would make sculpting the underside a lot easier.

Update: The model is progressing, I still need to add the rest of the details then paint it.
I changed the pose so it was more natural and less boring.
