not to be cynical, but I'm pretty sure they have. This last series, #3 I bought something like 100+ yowies this year trying to fill out my own collection but also help other members here. and I have an army of lions and chimpanzees and Ithink I've only found some 5 hornbills. I feel its unfair since its a blind bag style purchase to begin with, so your chance of finding 1 out of some 24 models is rare enough to begin with. In my opinion, if you are only interested in a few models from the series I'd just wait until they start to pop up here or on ebay and buy the ones you want. It is very frustrating.

I ended up with at least 6 chimps last round and lots of other duplicates, although I was also buying for someone overseas. I think they do it on purpose, whether it is completely intentional or deliberate indifference. Rolling Eyes Razz Neutral

Thank you, Roger! I have come across quite a few of those Putz figures in flea markets and antique shops through the years. It is surprising not many people seem to know about them given for as common as they seem to be. In all honesty, Putz was the first composition figure company I learned about. I had no clue other brands of these composition figures existed until I joined here. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

And after learning about Lineol...oh my, I couldn't stop picking up their wolves everytime I saw one! [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] (And I can't be certain I'm finished in doing so yet!)

Although I did indeed get the CE Anise Swallowtail, I didn't picture it with the group above since I had promised to trade it to Beatrice. It was the only one she was missing from her set. If she hasn't already, I know she will be adding the photo on T.A.I. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

As for all those TM butterflies, I am sure Blaine will be of great assistance there as he is now the new owner of all of them. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] He expressed interest in them when I offered the CE Black Widow spider he had been looking for and decided they would be better appreciated in his collection than my own.

I would like to thank everybody who gave me many useful tips on what is best to use for customs. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

I painted all these horses when I was around 10 or 11, they were so bad I had to do a before and after photo. I really cracked up when I found these horses again.

Thanks for opening this topic, Fallon! I hope you can find #3 and #10.
These figures are very beautiful! As Susanne pointed, these are too well painted to be those regular China figures we know from almost all Club Earth or Play Visions sets. They are also nubered and species marked and it is often an evidence that they belong to a branded set. I would love to see the cheap China versions, namely these two missing in this topic, thus, we could try to guess, at least, the species. #5 was already listed on Club Earth Sea Animals series, so, I am not sure it belongs to both. It is important to tell that Beatrice is an expert grouping these figures in series. She pays atention to all details, from the way they are painted, manufactured or even the lettering used to get them marked. :)

Review of the complete set of Bugs n' Jug by the Imperial Toy Corporation (Imperial Toys, as it's often referred to on this forum) from 1990. The set consists of 12 beetle figures, a pamphlet, plastic forceps, a small magnifying glass, and a small mesh insect net, and the whole set came in a plastic jar. The set was clearly designed to introduce children to insects and promote insect collection!

The figures are on average about 30 mm long and a slightly soft rubber/plastic, characteristic of many vintage figures. Some represent interesting and bizarre families; half I still cannot confidently place. I have been holding off posting this until I could confidently identify everything but finally decided to post them, in hopes maybe someone can recognize some.

I have 'knock-off' figures of a few of these, although I am not sure who came first (I do not know how 'original' Imperial Toys tended to be...). Each figure is marked on the underside with their vintage 'crown' stamp but no name, common or scientific.

Group shot with pamphlet:

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192643photo uploading

Individual beetles, the 'known' species to families followed by the unknowns:

1. Wedge-shaped beetle, family Ripiphoridae. This is a neat one, and to my knowledge the only member of this family in toy form (not including potential knock-offs--I think I have seen one on eBay).

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192657photo uploading

2. Stag beetle, family Lucanidae. Nothing exciting and probably too generic to ID further...

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192701photo uploading

3. Click beetle, family Elateridae. This figure actually has a prosternal process sculpted on the underside, solidifying its placement in Elateridae (my specialty group!). I also have a lavender-colored knock-off of this guy.

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192706photo uploading

4. Tumbling flower beetle, family Mordellidae. Like the ripiphorid above, another unique one at the family level!

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192716photo uploading

5. Primitive weevil, family Brentidae. I have a few of these in various sizes but all influenced from one another. I have yet to hunt down the genus or species but it looks familiar...

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192722photo uploading

6. Giraffe weevil, Trachelophorus giraffa, family Attelabidae. This figure is identifiable by its shape, but it really should be red instead of green. The only figure in the set I can currently identify to the species level.

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192731photo uploading

7. Unknown #1. The shape suggests Chrysomelidae but the mandibles are unusual...(Histeridae?)

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192650photo uploading

8. Unknown #2. I am pretty sure this is a flea beetle (Chrysomelidae: Alticini). In the U.S. one might consider the genus Orthaltica!

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192712photo uploading

9. Unknown #3. This is most-certainly a fungus beetle of some kind, probably in the family Erotylidae or Endomychidae (maybe a glorified Tritoma?).

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192727photo uploading

10. Unknown #4. Another possible chrysomelid? Very generic; the form is actually dytiscid-like but the antennae are awfully long.

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192739photo uploading

11. Unknown #5. I have seen this general morphotype a few times in toy form. I always considered them checkered beetles (Cleridae), but who can say?

Topics tagged under 3 on STS Forum - Page 2 20170526_192744photo uploading

12. Unknown #6. This one strikes me as a possible member of Tenebrionidae. Maybe a glorified Bolitophagus?

Blaine's Bug-of-the-Day is a Buzz with Bumblebees in the genus Bombus!

I. Golden northern bumblebee, Bombus fervidus.
One figure, by Play Visions (Bees, Wasps, and Hornets).

[You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]image hosting no sign up

II. Miscellaneous Bombus figures.
These were all specifically marketed as bumblebees, but not to the species level.

1. Safari LTD (Smithsonian Insects)
2. CollectA
3. Safari LTD (Authentics Insects)
4. Funrise Toys (World of Nature Insects Collection)
5. Bullyland
6. Safari LTD (Insects TOOB)
7. Safari LTD (Good Luck Minis)
8. Little Critterz (Little Critterz)

Late 2017 additions. [added 11/23/2017]
1. Little Critterz (Northern Rose)
2. Schleich (Minis) [a generic bee, not sure if intended to be Bombus or not.]

III. Miscellanous Bombus-like figures.
These are generic bee figures but more-closely resemble Bombus than Apis or others (my other generic bees will be posted with A. mellifera when its time comes).

These are all by unknown manufacturers except [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] 1, 2, and 3 which are all by Toy Major ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] was produced for Animal Planet Head Animal Tube - Insects).

Product upgrades continued: -

Wow, if macaw is nunmber 1, the Rainforest puzzle is not correct yet. We only knew the 1996 version from parrots bulk that is marked [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Okapi and orangutan numbers match those we obtained. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] It means I need more numbers. Mandrill we have on TAI is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but it is the version from Monkeys bulk that is also from 1998. So, I suppose yours is marked [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]?
3 is leopard, 4 boa and 6 civet. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] These numbers helped us a lot to organize all bulks missing on 1998 catalogue, but, to do it correctly, we also needed to know the numbers of those in catalogue. I may ask you some more further if you don't mind.

Thanks also for your words but I am not as knowledgeable, I am just very dedicated and witht he help of several of you, we're building TAI that turns anyone in an expert. Whatever it means, it is interesting. :)

This is the brown horse #3:

It looks quite the same as Susanne's brown horse, but it's hard to say because of the different lighting on both photographs Wink

People & donkeys:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Top row & 1st item middle row: Modern repros of the pre-war T&B seaside donkey ride set.
I got them quite cheap, and they're actually much nicer than originals.
As said in the pig post, in the original donkey ride set, the hut was included.
The resting donkey and donkey foal were also part of the Donkey ride set, but these are originals, made post-war as part of the B&S farm range.

Bottom row:
Girl feeding lamb: pre-war T&B, post-war FGT
Scarecrow: new post-war item by FGT
Milkmaid #1: new FGT item
Milkmaids #2 #3: pre-war T&B, post-war B&S
Farmer (small scale): pre-war T&B, post-war B&S
Cowman (small scale): pre-war T&B, post-war FGT (2 paint versions)
