Dorotea's repainted horses

Hello again,

I already posted a couple of posts in this forum some 6 months ago and now I'm here again.
I was considering starting a topic here or on a german MPV forum, but the MPV seems extremely hyperactive, I'm barely managing to follow some topics + I know horse colors terms in english anyway and don't have to suffer trying to write in german

Sooo, I was "collecting" Schleich horses for a while, and off course found some on a fleamarket which were "damaged"
(had many rubs) and I, of course, had to fix them...
Now I'm at around 30 repainted horses  

I will show them from the beginning.
I know that the first ones are "faulty", but I won't change them much, I want to know how my perception of details and importance of this and that changed in time

This was my first repaint - an unusual overo-ish mare:

Some other followed, I especially wanted a knabstrup-friesian mix which I saw (and drooled) on the net:
(two black friesians and a quarter are not repaints)
(The foal is kind of a half-repaint, a modified original color)

Then I tried my first extreme dapple gray, I wanted "clear" dapples

I love all your repaints, especially the dappeled one is beautyful , but I also the one behind him   

How great that you save fleamarket-horses ! Almost as in a fairytale   

Well, meanwhile I have repainted more new than used horses, if I like the mold I can't wait too long to find it on a fleamarket + it is getting harder to find cheap Schleich on fleamarkets - people really tend to overprice their used toys, especially the ones with many rubs.

Me too! I also know the names of all those different colours better in English than in my native language. Good to know I'm not the only one   
I'm not a member of MPV but I really enjoy watching all those different custom threads. There's indeed this little problem that there are so much topics... it's hard to follow everything so I just 6 big custom threads.

Btw. most of them have names not numbers  
I was just doing this to keep track of what I did, and now it is the simplest way of presenting them

And another Hamilton-horse Isn't it marvellous that the lipizzans used to be paint ?
What a long, boring period when paints were not liked in the European countries and Russia.   

Oew number 10 had the be a diffecult one the paint! That detail is beautifully done.

O another new favorit number 11 is wonderfull    how did you get it to look like its so softed and fluffy!?

14 and 15 are nice to, the colors are bautifull for the horses you choose.

and the golden Teké... that should have been his color in the first place if you ask me!
I also had the idea to make a real gold teké. but yours is very good, i'm going to juse your idea for mine, if you don't mind ?

The Johann Georg Hamilton horses are so picture perfect, why don't you take them outside?
And i have 1 question; Why don;t you sculp them into the horses you have know only taking the color from as acsample?
i would be great to see that als barock style into schleich scale horses!
Maybe a tip? if you have got so many horses to paint maybe try one to make into a real Johann Georg Hamilton horse

Yes, it seems that the lipizzan breed was a colorful crowd - I suppose that is true for many of today's european breeds
I can understand that, since a horse was THE mean of transport a long time, people wanted an uniform animal,
but the color is coming back big time for many breeds 

At this point I know of one blue roan lipizzaner

and there is definetely some kind of sabino present underneath of all that gray
+ this source says that there is no classic splash [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]  buuut,
I have seen images of blue-eyed lipizzans, and have heard of blue eyed horses with asymmetrical white (heavier on the bottom) on the face - so I suspect there could be some kind of splash gene there among the lipizzan population, heterozygous and invisible or barely visible
waiting to get loud    
I guess that should than be very targeted color breeding (without getting into how justtified breeding for color only is...) - If one is lucky/patient enough first to find, and than manage to combine two such individuals (who should not be grays or at least be heterozygous grays)
one could maybe eventually get a loud splash lipizzan...

I'm glad you like them, 10 got a bit boosted later   
Snowflake (11) was first a chestnut pinto, then I added a layer of a very rare white paint.

I agree, that is why I repainted DorKush (bay bird in Turkmen)
Of course I don't mind, nobody has exclusive rights to horse colors

I have to honestly say that I don't get much satisfaction in outdoor model horse photos
(I would at least have to have a better camera than this, my "new" one died some mounths ago, and this is an ancient Olympus mju300, but it's doing its job for now)

Don't say this twice - something arrived in the mail for me today 
I have been checking what is being done with apoxie clay, and am perhaps interested in doing some minimal sculpting - like manes and tales, not sure if I want to take on full body sculpts at this point - a lot of energy needs to be invested there and I just really want to paint...
+ I just don't see myself sawing off horse heads and legs

I love most of your customs but what I love best is that you're posting back here. I hope you'll keep showing these wonderful works and congratulations for your talent Dorotea.

Here I am already making sure that the face and especially eyes are detailed enough.

17. wildstyle - so I know his mane is not too realistic, I've considered blurring it down a bit, but I've decided to leave it, let's just say it's some kind of extreme slivering
difficult to say what his base color is - could be some grullo (I did't bother with the back line) or a classic champagne tovero with blues eyes - probably not a combination that will come up somewhere soon

she is called Lady Blue

20. Golden Eye - sabino dapple buckskin barok pinto with amber eyes
I saw a similar one on ebay (wasn't dappled though) and decided to try and make my own, I don't find sabino too interesting, but this "messy" coloring on the legs is very attractive for me

They're getting better and better! I really like the strawberry roan, one of my favorite colors

I have once seen a buckskin Icelandic horse with golden eyes, - very strange and beautyfull !

I really wanne see you do that, with your paint job it will be a fabulouse model in the end.

I understand the sculpt presure... it is a long way from sowing a horse to bits and pieces
back to a really horse again and then also make it look good !

And the dapples are great i like the messyness in the horses, it makes them more realistic

Nr. 10 mustang roaned significantly since the last time, he also got his head and eyes redone
Nr. 15 black arabian mare also got her head redone

Palomino arabian mare was bought (the only repaint I bought so far) from this lady:

I wanted to actually see one of these apoxie customs, and I really like the horse, especially how she does faces

Here are the fixed versions of horse 22 and 24
and two - I call them - half-repaints:
-TW mare (she is the mysteriously missing nr.6 from the 1st picture  )
had some dirty scratches on her, so first I just covered them with white patches, wasn't very happy with the result,
but she is ok now when I added some additional shading
-and tinker mare - I just could not watch the paintjob on the mane anymore so I kind of "fixed" her coloring

And I like the name you gave to your dapple grey Andalusian mare "Lady Blue", it reminds me the title of Nina Simone's song "Little Girl Blue"

Your strawberry roan horse is, I think, especially beautifully painted! Seems he's becoming popular here!
