As most of you noticed, there's no hippo in Mojo range, and nobody asked for it! But in this final contest we can find a hippopotamus!!! Where?
Hippopotamus is a greek word meaning river horse, "hippo" horse, "potamus" river!
Notice that in scientific name of the sable antelope we find Hippotragus, what means hippo=horse and tragus=goat, and we understand it because this "goat" has a horse looking!
And in the red river hog we see the name Potamochoerus, "Photamus"=river and "Choerus"=pig! So it means river pig! So ther is the hippopotamus! Sorry! Sleep Sleep study Sleep Sleep

There are plenty of hippos on the market now, why should someone want it made by Mojo when there're so many wonderful species uncovered? :)

Dear friends,
After a starting dominated by the sable antelope, we start Sunday with the gaur ahead! Interesting to see the preferences balancing between Asian and African fauna! And let's see from which continental region will be the selected figure! gaur for Asia or sable antelope for Africa???
...anyway are missing 3 days, any other can win! Very Happy

I have a question for those who voted for the gaur, to have it in scale with the rest of the figures (Schleich wildlife figures are normally between 1:18 and 1:22) it will have to be around 7 to 9 inches (16.5 to 18 cm) long. That is a really big figure, 3 inches (7.5 cm) longer then the Schleich African elephant. With that in mind do you think MOJO will make the figure in scale or will it be smaller, around the same size as their other figures?

The reason I buy figures is to fit in with the others I have in scale, if the figure is so small that it looks out of place will everyone feel the same as they do the elephant figures? Thinking back, how many posts are there where the size of most brands elephant figures are too small? Threads on other brands "Wish Lists" almost always contain several posts on African/Asian elephant in scale with the other figures.

I ask this for several reasons, my feelings are if you want the gaur, vote for it, but if it is too small in scale will we be happy and still buy it? Will we complain about it being too small? If this happens in the future will MOJO still take our suggestions seriously? Will they decide that no matter what figure they make serious collectors will not be happy so just make the figures that sell and are popular as toys? I want our suggestions will be listened to, so if we choose the gaur and it isn't the figure we hope it is do we voice this? All things to consider when making a suggestion to any company.

Phil has a good point there, I voted for the Moon bear myself. But, the figurines we are voting for are exclusively for us collectors. So couldn't they, if the Gaur wins, make this model to scale with other animals?

Harriet, no one will make serial production exclusively for collectors and for reasonable price. We must be real and know that it will be an animal for wide market, we've only been given the honor to choose which one will it be... I don't think any company will make land non-prehistoric animal which is larger than their elephant or even close to it

You're right Robert! What am I thinking! Rolling Eyes They couldn't do this and it would be impossible for them to make a Gaur to scale too, so if the Gaur wins then it will have to be made a lot smaller.
I hadn't taken in just how big it would be if in scale Shocked

Let's say this is a size difference between Asian elephant and gaur. If we know what is the size of Mojo African elephant (I suppose it's the similar as Schleich's) and Asian elephant is a bit smaller, it comes that gaur would be the size of Papo lioness Rolling Eyes

Its just a suggestion, but say this was possible?
Also if the Gaur was made in scale to a farm range would the size be more or less that of a Hereford Bull?

Another Idea would be to make it relative scale to the Tiger, this would be an asian diorama so could be separate to african?

A male gaur reach 170 to 220cm at shoulders... So the size is far bigger than a 150cm Hereford bull I guess

I don't have tigers here, but the principle is the same. They would have to make gaur smaller than Asian elephant and with that - it's already too small

Correct me if i am wrong but i think Papo and Mojo Tigers are bigger than Schleichs.
The average height of a Bengal Tiger is 90cm so if the Gaur stood twice as tall at 180cm then he would be say the size of schleich Fresian cow? Very Happy

elephants are difficult to make in scale, by virtue of their size.
If you made the elephant in scale to everything then the meerkat would be around 1-1.5cm high.
I think you have to find a balance between size and scale, making it in scale to say the Papo Tiger would at least give a good size model and at a reasonable price?

It would contribute in much more variety in sizes

The scale of a toy animal has to be considered for it's principal consumer, is that the child who wants to play with it or the parent who has to pay for it? Most likely it is a combination of both. If the elephant is in scale with the rest of the figures the cost would be prohibitive. In scale the African elephant would be 15 inches long (14.75 cm) and probably cost $22 to $40 USD (based on Wildlife Wonders which is 12 inches long and Schleich new release which is an Asian war elephant that is a larger then their wildlife Asian elephant but still not to scale). At that price would parents buy one for their child?

Lets say they make a scale gaur, how popular will it be? If everyone on this site buys two that would be about 600 sold. That isn't bad, but could they make money on a figure that only sells that many copies? if the cost is $15 USD how many here would purchase 1 or 2? I would not buy one, not because of price but because I have a two males being custom made right now, and compared to Ana's figures there is no toy brand that comes close, so I'm out no matter what figure they produce. But still I would not have certain figures custom made because they are not going on the model. That is what I based my 3 choices and my vote on, a figure that I really want but not for the diorama, just to have in my collection. All of these thoughts I have are from a point of view that combines selling with collecting. Collectors are a small portion of the sales, but they are willing to spend the most money per item.

My choice was the siamang gibbon, but I hope the sable wins. Not only is that an impressive animal, it could be a very popular figure and it would end this debate as far as MOJO is concerned. Still the debate will go on for all of the brands when it comes to large animals, I hope there is a day when there are rhinos, hippos, and elephants in scale available for my display shelf.

In scale the African elephant would be 15 inches long (14.75 cm)

You mean 38cm? :-)

My choice was the siamang gibbon, but I hope the sable wins. Not only is that an impressive animal, it could be a very popular figure and it would end this debate as far as MOJO is concerned.
Agreed, all we need is to suggest our wanted animal which would also satisfy financial argument for producing it. Everybody's a winner

Your right Robert, 14.75 is the exact size in inches, I rounded up to 15, the figure would be 38 cm.

Phil, Aggree completly with you, choose a figure only because looks nice is not enough, we need to think in something good for us and for the brand because if the winner is successful I don't have any doubt that the brand will ask us for more! cheers Very Happy

How can we choose among such beautiful animals? I voted for red river hog, but frankly I'd love to see them all on my display! lol
