| Thank you everyone. This dementia of his is no fun, but honestly I really enjoyed getting a few hours to sit and relax/paint. I should have taken a little more time and care especially on the spots, but it was so good to sit by myself. |

| Joining [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s gorgeous Papo Megaloceros, here is another take on this figure for this year's Model Painting Month, I wanted to paint one like the deer god from Princess Mononoke for a while. I might do some more less realistic colourations for this figure in the future, it's just such a fun toy to work with. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here a closer look at its bird-like feet: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here it is with my herd of Ken Walker inspired customs: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]There are some additional photos in my own custom thread. Still I gotta say, George's version really blows my mind, the smooth blend of natural fur colours just looks fantastic and the eyes are so delicately done. Same with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s red fox, incredibly realistic at such a small scale, especially those eyes with the slit pupils. Seeing both reminds me that I really need to buy smaller brushes sometime, mine are all too large for such detailed work. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s spotted hyena is another fantastic one, really shows how much a paint job can improve any figure, and also great choice of inspiration with those unusual colour morphs. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s tiger family is just absolutely adorable, they turned out really pretty, love the last photo, it really makes them come alive. Speaking of tigers, as a cryptid enthusiast I am really looking forward to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s Maltese tiger. |

| Sunny, those tigers came out perfect! They are a lovely family, so much improved with those interesting and complex stripe patterns. I like the view from the top of the male especially, love how you handled where the stripes meet.
Burgerenby, I love all your Megaloceras-es! This new one is a cool idea, I have never seen the movie but this depiction is really cool. I love especially the contrast between the creamy underside and the tan coat, where you've incorporated a little red. As always, you have a beautiful way of handling the medium that really makes it rich and lively.
I don't know if I am going to be able to finish my little horse today and tomorrow and get it in on time, but I am going to try to finish him eventually nevertheless! Good luck to everyone still painting as well!! |

| I can only echo those above, the tigers really have turned out lovely, the striping patterns are so neatly applied and realistic in design, from all angles. Did you copy a different reference animal for each one, so they'd turn out realistic but not the same, or just study a lot to 'learn' the likely patterns then invent your own? Cos I follow both those methods when I'm painting pintos : sometimes it's a pattern taken from an individual whose markings I really like, other times I make it up as I go along based on the feeling I've learnt the shapes patches tend to be, and where they're most likely to happen. It'd be interesting to know if one way or the other works better for other people, or if I'm in the minority in going free-hand as often as I do And the Megaloceros I just commented on in your custom thread, but I'm enjoying the extra pictures in here, too. His eyes do look neat and fully detailed, but I can see why that's been a struggle if your brushes are all a little too big to apply the smaller specks of colour. I recommended them somewhere else recently, possibly even in the Painting Month thread, but by fair the cheapest and easiest way to get hold of tiny paintbrushes in handy shapes and sizes for fine detailing is to look for nail art supplies. Online, or if you go to shops they'd have them too, I used to buy them in a pound shop (like a dollar store) when I worked in a town, now I just order them off Ebay cos I don't go to real shops any more. You get a pack of 8 or 10 brushes for less than you'd pay for a single tiny paintbrush from a specialist art or model shop, and SO much better quality too, cos the bristles are firm and springy but not scratchy or stiff. The art ones tend to be too flimsy and soft, so you don't get full control of the paint even though they're small enough at the tip, and they go fluffy and ragged really quickly, like one or two uses. The nail art ones will eventually get messed up and wear out, but they're good for a lot, lot longer - and they're cheap enough to just get a new pack every couple of years, without regretting what you've spent on them |

| I managed it! I made myself focus because I knew I wouldn't have the time tomorrow and got as done as I think I am going to be able to. I have mixed feelings about him! From a distance or in thumbnail, he looks quite convincing, and even in person because he's little. But in these up close photos, phew! He looks quite blotchy and unpolished. Things that looks smoothly blended turned out to be streaky and tiny details like his eyes that looked pretty okay are actually not really correctly filled in at all, whoops! I have a similar problem to many here, my smallest brushes turned out were not any smaller than the ones I started with. Also perhaps I am getting to a point in my life where glasses will be necessary because I just couldn't see him all that well, I went sort of cross eyed trying to get the finer details in. But it was another good learning experience. I knew dapple was going to be difficult, and I was right, but it had different challenges than the chestnut I did first. | Looking at the photos of the original Funrise toy, I am baffled how you managed to make it look so natural, glasses or not, your repaint improved the figure to a great degree, especially the face, but I also love the different shades that are blending on the sides of the body. I also like that you gave the hooves some colour variation with the keratin. |

| Looking at what you were attempting to emulate vs your work I actually think it worked quite well. To my eye, the tape you used to lay out the spot spacing is pretty similar to what I could see of Britains models online. I like the speckles on her face too. But when you do re-attempt your project I am excited to see the result! Its such a small model too... I can't imagine trying to pull it off myself. I think this first try was pretty good, so try [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will be great! Thank you for sharing!!! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. There is a lot of light moving about on him |

ah I really like this unusual coat pattern! it reminds me of African batik patterns infact and to me it suits the giraffe well. If the coat was staying on this giraffe then I may be tempted to give it a light sanding so that some of the edges and lines smoothed out/disappeared/blended in a bit. However, I really like it a lot! but I appreciate that you aren't really pleased with it [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] :) |
