As the web address suggests, wild west items is Eric's main interest, but over the past year or so he has been broadening his site to cover all themes. Not complete yet, but Eric is progressing well with the help of other collectors, and we must remember there are a lot of items, and different versions of play sets, to be listed, described and photographed.

I guess it is a Tahr and not a Nilgai

Yes, i was right. I got the information from a friend that Marx later corrected this Eland as Markhor. And yes made in Hong Kong

These were made in Hong Kong for Marx originally, so it is more a question of were these made for Marx? or made later by the same people, using the same moulds, for sale elsewhere?

Marx owned their own factory in Hong Kong, they were made by Marx for their own sales lines. Some Marx molds from the US factory have ended up in Mexico and are producing recasts currently but I've never heard of any Marx Hong Kong items showing up from later makers.

Yes , The deer is from Marx Animal kingdom .

Not sure that Marx actually had a factory in Hong Kong. Most likely an outfit from Hong Kong produced these animal figures and were sold by Marx. Most of the Hong Kong production were rip offs from Britains especially the small scale stuff.

Marx did have facilities in the UK based in Swansea South Wales. These were close to the Mettoy (Corgi Toys) plant and the Lego (UK) factory.

Marx were the Tomy of the first half of the 20th C, they had factories and suppliers everywhere. Germany, Holland, UK, US, Japan, HK et.al. Moulds, mouldings and specific sculpts (licensed Disney poses) were shared between factories and ranges.

Marx had several factories in HK, notably ELM (late 1950's) which produced some of the small-scale stuff and the novelties and helped form the 'toy industry' structure (TMHK-HKTF-HKTC) in HK, but Linemar (the import arm) had at least one supplier marking up in that brand, while most of the later Disney stuff seems to have had sets of moulds sent to HK, and product was also received from a factory in Taiwan. The vinyls may have come from Macau while the major HK plant of Universal may well have supplied Marx, being formed by an ex-Marx employee (David Yeh Chung-woo) who had helped set up Marx's first factory in the colony (ELM). Lam Leung-tim (of Forward Winsome) also worked with Marx, producing what he believes were the first toys in Guangzhou (1949), mainland China. The Fishel's worked for Marx as importers first in Japan (Marlines) then in HK (HKI and Electra).

Durham Industries' Joe Kling also points the finger at Marx being responsible for some of the knock-off's you mention and I have Blue Box'esque stuff in the collection with Marx HK branding
