| Fantastic collection Martin , wonderful herd Andreas and lovely animals Krista Thank You all for showing very nice photos I think Bullyland moose is a great one, and I love the walk around photos Thank You Kiki! This figure is surely on my wish list I also have some moose and reindeer, not many and not new for this topic though. However I think they are very cute and it's nothing wrong to show the same models again here :) So, older schleich and CollectA moose bulls :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]New schleich moose family: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And my 2 reindeer Schleich and Bullyland [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Still not enough to pull Santa's sleigh... they would better stay with me [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| I thought this SUY was dedicated to all Capreolinae subfamily but it is dedicated to 2 beautiful species, the moose and reindeer. First my only 2 reindeers, both from modern brands, the Bullyland caribou and Safari. Reindeers are not only known as caribous in USA but sometimes also it is used as a way to identify the group of North American subspecies from European. The 2 representative of my collection are clearly different. While Bullyland represents the typical caribou with traditional colouring and and huge flatened antlers. Safari shows a little almost white figure with deer like smaller antlers. I think it is also an American subspecies, more precisely the whitish Northern known as Peari caribou, See here a picture The dark back and head are characteristics of this population, they are relatively small and with less complex antlers. The only difference I see with the figure is that it has the legs much darker that those I can find searching in the Internet. If someone has a better idea I'd loved to see! I don't have an European (usually domesticated) reindeer, Kristie is showing in this topic the Bullyland one that represents a reindeer that will be never called a caribou. This topic is also nice to help me finding a 54mm reindeer for my collection. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Bullyland and Safari caribous Later I'll show my 2 mooses and congrats to all of your beautiful figures! |

| Thankyou, Roger , for the good explanation of the different reindeer The first time I saw a live reindeer I was very surprised how small, they are. We maynly see pictures of the almost-tame ones from Finland , and they looked much larger, - perhaps the Sames arent tall people ? - Roger wrote:

You are right, first I suggested just "deer". But as you said, that is much too wide a subject So I canged it to Capreolinae, - but as the roe deer ( And White-tailed deer) are also in that group I found it a little strange way to divide them. We have here in Denmark 3 kinds of deer : Red deer (we call them Crown-deer), fallow deer and roe deer, so to me they belong together The moose and the reindeer belong together in my amateur mind But you are right, it is good to learn that the deer are divided in two groups, even if it is the structure of the ankle and not the looks that determine them |

| These are obviously favourites with a lot of us, it's nice to see so many beautiful models! Here are some old ones. During their long lives, some of these old composition animals have lost their metal antlers and replacements have been made by loving owners (and loving owners' parents). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Two different Elastolin composition Moose bodies. The one on the right lost its antlers and someone has filled in the antler-socket to make a "female". [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The old Elastolin Moose on the left has replacement antlers cut from a tin can; the sharp edges have been carefully rounded off with putty. The Moose on the right was made by Lineol in the 1950's. It is wearing replacement antlers from a Britains plastic Moose (!) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1:32 scale. Two metal Moose by Charbens in different colours, and a plastic Moose by Britains. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo bull Moose with the Schleich Moose family. | [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Sorry, Susanne, we don't know the date of the AAA Reindeer. We bought him on eBay last year because he is in scale with our 1/12th scale horses and we could use him in scenes like the one above. You will have to ask one of the AAA experts on this forum! | Very interesting old antlered friends! I love to see your pictures of them and mainly to read their stories and peculiarities like the Britains antlers in a Lineol figure. That's funny once they are in different scales! Thanks for showing Sue and Lesley! |

| Glad you like the snowy scene! The background's a cheap, unframed print form the local art shop and the animals are standing on a fluffy white towel (with its surface smoothed over a bit in Paint Shop Pro).

Yes, this is so interesting! All these stories And the one with handmade antlers is so fantastic too, someone had to put so much work to restore this moose and the effect looks great And the reindeer which was repainted many times, these figures are special _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection
