| To all Thank you so much!
Sumo Wich one you wanted to buy? They are really nice. However, I like only two of them (and I have them=), QH is too similar to the Stone one, and the grey Arabian - well, I just don't like him. And the Eberl Andalusian's gonna be customized by my friend Vivian (the author of a CM Weather Girl in my album), as long as I don't like the way this model's prepped.
Mangalarga Yes, I failed to get Gretel, but I love this mold so much that I couldn't pass by when I saw this mare:) |

| I managed to take some pics of those equines arrived reciently, and compare their sizes and appearance. Don't you think that QH stallion and the mustang are alike? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]You know, there's a funny thing about the Breyer Classic QH mare. She's the smallest one among my Classic Mares Herd, even the mustang mare is bigger [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]...but seem to suit well to the other vintage stallions. The only vintage mare I used to have was a mustang one, and the mustang stallion was already after her, so my Vintage Classic Famous Racehorses Herd had no sweetheart. And now the QH mare arrived... I believe she would get some attention from those stallions And the QH Foal- as I looked at him, I thought he would be rather high (for a classic size), but he's really small, almost like Schleich. | And yes! several newcomers from Sumo! She sent me several great Breyer and Peter Stone bodies, together with some of her really nice CMs The first one is Breyer Traditional Cupid and Arrow Gift SetA very sweet pair, really. Cupid seems to be a bit nervous in her new home, but soon I'll take her to the other mare with a colt, Valentine, and hope they would make friends. :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Traditional Cupid, Thoroughbred mare mold. A large, beautiful mare. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Traditional Arrow, Nursing Foal mold[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A have a strong intence to touch his nose as a look at him:) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Funny- he has a kind of 'arrow' marking on his back :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The other 'Norwegian' newcomer is Breyer Traditional Monty Robert's Shy Boy. He's given to me as a body, but he's in a good condition, and now I just have no idea what to do with him- leave untouched or customize in so way (which exactly?) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A funny guy, rather heavy and big. And seem not to be that shy as his name saya [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Ang here's a Peter Stone Pebble body. He's bay pinto [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And this is a Peter Stone Chips Morgan Stallion (in 1:32 scale). Not from Sumo, but also a newcomer [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]He's so tiny and thin that every time I take him in my hands I fear to break him or do any other harm. | That poor Pebble... as you can see he's something of a trainwreck. You could be excused for assuming the sculptor made the head and neck in one piece and the body in another, and somehow they ran out of space and had to cut away a chunk of shoulder - but the truth is I've seen many other models by the sculptor and they're all like that, with the forearm practically joined directly to the shoulder. I've been meaning to fix it, but just never had the energy... Hope you can make him beautiful, the poor guy deserves a break ! - Cyhyraeth wrote:

The size difference is due to the different sculptors. The old Maureen Love sculpts, which were adapted from the HR chinas, are the smallest of the lot, with the QHs and Mustangs by far the tiniest. Aren't they beautiful? It's such a shame Breyer no longer has the right to produce these models (the chinas are lovely of course, but I daren't buy any - just too fragile for me). |

Oh yes, he has rather strange proportions, but I feel like giving him new appearance. Unfortunately I'm not a sculptor so I wouldn't dare to do this myself, but there are some good artists that may help.:)

Oh, I love Maureen Love's molds most among all the Breyer horses ever made. Unfortunately some of them are HTF now (esp some particular models), and you have almost dwell on MH$P and Ebay to get a horse you want. I believe those old Classics are more detailed than even some new trads, and have a stronger personality. BTW, could you tell me, why Breyer stopped producing these molds? The contract's over and M.Love's gone, or why? AFAIK HR still produce some of her molds. |

| IIRC Breyer originally made some models based on HRs back in the 60s. The resulting lawsuit resulted in the PAM* being withdrawn and - for a very brief interlude - replaced with the notorious "in-between mare". After Breyer and HR reached a settlement Breyer got to lease certain molds for a certain period of time. Among these are the classic racehorses, Mustangs, QHs, and the CAfamily as well as all the G1 Stablemates. The lease expired sometime around 2005 (again, IIRC), and Breyer no longer has permission to sell any of these models.
For anyone interested in model horse history and rarities, I recommend Andrea Gurdon's blog.

| Got a small herd of old Classics- Mustang Family Set and Arabian Family, molds by Maureen Love. They all are body quality, but that's not a problem) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]First - Breyer Classic Arabian Family, retired. This Set originally was from HR, AFAIK, and later it got released in plastic by Breyer. As I looked at them in porcelain, I was very impressed, but their 'plastic' version disappointed me a bit. The mare is really nice, but the stallion is too plain to my taste. Anyway, they look quite good together. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Arabian Stallion, mold retired. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Arabian Mare, mold retired. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]From this sight she's really nice (though seem to be nervous). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Arabian Foal, mold retired. The vendor gave me three of them, so now those Arabs have kind of kindergarten:)) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And my most welcomed Breyer Classic Mustang Family Set, discontinued. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I tried to paint their flaws and rubbs, but the stallion had a rather complicated colour, so it was a problem to find the paint(( Breyer Classic Mustang Stallion, mold retired. I'm in love with his colour. So juicy. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Tried to hide the flaws and scratches on him. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]His stable name is Sandstorm. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Mustang Mare, mold retired. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The original mold from HR is called Daisy, so I decided to call her this way:) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]She's very, very small, even smaller than the QH mare and the Mesteno mare. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Mustang Foal, mold retired. I called it Grasshopper because of its cute long legs I do not collect the foals, but this funny little thing.. Well, I fell in love with it:) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Breyer Classic Andalusian Foal. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]This brown foal wasn't from the mustang set originally, but as long as vendor sent it together with them, I decided to leave it with them. Daisy would be its stepmother now:) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
